I've been listening to a lot of reformed stuff and I just feel so weighed down because no matter what I do I feel as if I have no power over sin + Everytime I pray for the Lord to save me I have doubts that I don't truly believe. Can you guys recommend me some pastors/teachers? I understand only God can save me and that if your truly saved you'll be a new creation I guess I'm expecting an automatic change. I also listen to a lot of Illbehonest.com stuff and they really seem to stress that if your born again you'll be able to put to death sin through the spirit and I understand that. I JUST WANT TO BE BORN AGAIN AND FREED FROM THE POWER OF SIN. What Do I do?

Ist you have to realize that it is nothing about who, you are or what you have done, It is all about Who, Jesus Christ is and what He has done for you. now the Blood of Jesus can undo what sin has done. but when the Blood is applied, sin can NOT undo what the Blood has done. if the sin is powerful enough to undo what the Blood has done, then would the blood had been powerful enough to wash the sin away the first time? No. The Blood over rules any sin past, present or future. now this is not to say that we continue in sin, but our purification process is descibed like muturity, and some can mature over nite but others like myself take time, this is shown is words like babes in Christ on milk, or those in Christ on meat. it also says that some should be teaching others, but find themselves yet to be taught. they had been a christain for a while now, but still stand in need of being taught of Spiritual matters. Your faith must be that Jesus can keep you saved, it is not up to you. Jesus told the disciples to pray daily for our daily bread, also in this daily prayer we are to ask forgiveness for our sind/debts/trespasses. But to whom do we ask this forgiveness from, OUR FATHER, He is still our Father, even when we stand in need of forgiveness, even when we are in sin. many will tell you that you have to overcome the world before you can be saved. however 1 John 5 telss us that the ones that over come the world. Are the ones that believe in Jesus Christ, our faith in Christ makes us children of God and being children of God we have over come the world. for all have come short of the glory of God, for the wages of sin is death, But the Gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. But Jesus didn't come to condemn you, but to save you, all that believeth are saved, but those that believeth not are condemned already:

John 3:17-18
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
KJV

Romans 10:8-13
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
KJV

When the ox is in the ditch, you gotta get dirty to get it out. In other words, praying for change and sitting on your Levi's waiting for it isn't going to accomplish anything. Jesus will save you, and likely has, if you are sincere in your confession of Him as your Savior and Lord. You've been justified, meaning you are seen by the Father through the blood of Christ and reckoned blameless. But sanctification is a two way street. Sanctification -- set apart, made holy -- is opening yourself up to the leading power of the Holy Spirit, dealing with the strongholds in your life and pulling them down. Becoming more Christlike, you will have greater insight into your own sin and be able to give it over to Him for destruction,

How do you do this? You study His word, seeking His revealed will for all believers, and you pray concerning the struggles you are having and give them over to Him, allowing Him through the Holy Spirit to haul you up short when you stray into sin, confessing it and ridding yourself of it. You have to put some work into it yourself, because just waiting for Him to "zap" you sinless is going to be a long, long wait. You have the power now. Use it.

If you can find some of Adrian Rogers' sermons to download or listen to, that would make a good start. You can also Google Steve Gregg. He has a website full of teachings on audio, including two where he dissects Calvinism.

First of all, do you belong to a local church?
Just listening to sermons, no matter how good, is not the only, or even main means that the Lord uses to sanctify us. There must be fellowship, accountability, encouragement, hospitality, etc. You can't get (or give) that listening to a sermon online. So I would like to suggest that the teaching you are getting may be just fine, but perhaps are there other vital elements of your walk that need attention?

You do have no power over sin - But Christ does! Why will you not believe on him, and stop trying to do it yourself!

Chances are, listening to a whole bunch of sermons will only confuse you more. I know because I have been there. I was looking for good teachers to save me rather than Jesus Christ. I thought "surly God will use this book or sermon to save me..." and months would pass and nothing would change.

Then I realized one day that God offers what Jesus Christ did on the cross to all who will take it for themselves. He has given Christ to us, and you can have Him if you would like. All you have to do is receive Him.

Just go read the scriptures and ask the Lord to help you to see. But the first thing you should do, above all else, is repent and trust Christ. That is the way of salvation, faith in Christ. If you don't have that, listen to all the sermons you want, it won't save you. You must trust Christ, that is the ONLY way to be saved.

"you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life." John 5:40

If you want to life, go to Christ for it, he won't cast you out....

"All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out." John 6:37

"Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water."" John 4:10

Ask in faith.

Dear allthingsthroughhim. If you want to be Saved, become " born again," a new and different person, loving and kind to all you you know and meet, follow what Jesus told us in Matthews, chapter22, verses 35-40.
"The first and great Commandment is: Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is: Love thy neighbour as thyself."
On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.
Start by loving and caring for your neighbour, with everything you say or do, let your words be kind and helpful, and remember that God made us all in His image, God loves us all and God wants us all to be His loving children/sons and daughters. God will see our sincere efforts, and God will approve and bless us.
Jesus will give us His Love and Joy, and the Holy Spirit will empower us with His Love, also. ( Jesus taught us to "Ask and receive," Matthew 7, verses 7-8)
Then we thank God and share all Love and Joy with all around us. It might not be easy to start with, but IT CAN BE DONE, and our Heavenly Father wants loving and caring children.
We might stumble and forget at times, but then we get up, and carry on to do God`s Will. We can ask God for forgiveness again and again, and God will forgive us, as we will forgive others. Jesus is ever ready to lead and guide us back to God, where we came from, in fact: Jesus is THE WAY.
I say this with love, allthingsthroughhim. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

Emmy I appreciate your concern but that is definitely works salvation I suggest you read the book of Romans and ask Christ to open your eyes. We are saved by grace through faith ALONE. Everyone else I've been hearing a lot about regeneration and even the Spurgeon quote above this post talks about regeneration hmmmm This is why I think I can't fight sin is because I truly haven't been regenerated. Paul Washer talks about this a lot and he says "seek Christ" but how can we seek him when in Romans it says no one seeks after God (Rm 3:11)?
