[HQ] He is the President of the USA not the Pastor [Obama,Gay Marriage] - YouTube

A few points from the video for those who don't want to watch it:

-Obama is the President of the United State, not the Pastor of it: He is there to uphold the Constitution not the Bible.
\ The Constitution was born out of the Declaration of Independence which declares that all people are created equally.

- Such anger and fear is rooted in an ignorance or a projection of your own issues.

-What you major in, Jesus thought was minor, to the extent that he didn't even mention it.

I have an issue with that statement. There was a reason we had to have a 13th and 19th amendments. Clearly the Constitution wasn't born of the idea that all men are created equal, let alone all people.

Today that's true.

Back when it was written if you weren't a landowning white, a women or someone other than white you were not even close to being considered equal.

But with the passage of time things changed....

And they will keep changing, the things that get feathers fluffed up today will be non-issues 30 years from now and our childrens children will look back and wonder what the big deal was.

10 years ago on this board and other political forums, I was called a non-christian for not supporting our then president's war. It upsets me when people try to tell another that because they support or do not support one party means they are more or less a christian.
I do feel this is why the separation of church and state needs to get back into place as I feel the right has been exploding it to keep the christian's believing if they do not vote this way they are less than.

Both sides have super Christian values and All sides have some negatives.

So indeed the Constitution is not a "living, breathing" document but the people who live under its provisions are. Interesting concept.

Our founders were wise enough to understand that times change and that sometimes the need to change the constitution would come, which is why they included the ability to amend it.

It's pretty well said in this blog.

I like this guy's take on the recent Amendment passed in North Carolina.

[youtube]Clergy Rebukes Media for Asking Wrong Questions About Amendment One - YouTube[youtube]

edit: Only slightly related to the OP but his take on "asking the wrong question" I find relevant.

Wow. I'm black and it seems that black Christians were always generally conservative in this social matters. It's good to know that my religious brothers are finally throwing off some of their chains at least. It's also good to know that they don't equate "religious freedom" with "discriminating against others because of what I cherry-picked from my holy book of choice." Now, if only the Christian Right would get it, which I'm sure they never will.

Yeah, I'm not saying his connection between the Declaration and Constitution is a firm one, but an interesting point. Some Christians claim the country is Christian based on those things so its nice to see equality based on them.
