I have to agree here. It does disappoint me. We shall see how it all plays out in time though. Am wondering what happens if they find that the lawyer actually did have the second passport though.

I still don't think there's any way to convict him of second degree murder.

What does second degree murder entail?

I'm betting that he gets off the criminal rap but loses the civil suit. I don't think he should profit from this.

If the judge finds that he acted in self defense, he'll be immune from civil action

Which shows just how ignorant some people really are! They will send money based on a perceived innocence when in reality they do not have the facts. They are probably the same type of people who sent their money to Jim Baker.

He is entitled to a pretrial hearing where his claim of self defense is decided by a judge based on a preponderance of the evidence. A ruling of self defense by the judge grants Zimmerman immunity from prosecution and from civil action

Actually it's a presumed innocence, and the facts are in Zimmerman's favor

P.S. The jury won't make a ruling on self defense. In the unlikely event that this goes to trial, they will determine only if he is guilty or not guilty of 2nd degree murder

The first thing the prosecution will do is try to rip apart any claim of self defense. No doubt they will immediately point to the fact that Zimmerman could have completely avoided any potential conflict by behaving in a more responsible manner.

The first thing they would have to do is prove that he behaved irresponsibility, a daunting task based on the evidence we have

You are saying that self defense will have no bearing on the outcome of the jury's decision? Isn't self defense the backbone for the defense? LOL

Self defense will have a bearing on tthe verdict, but thejury will not make a determination of self dfense. they will only determine guilty or not guilty of 2nd degree murder. Althought the defense can file additional charges at some time I'm sure.

Actually, he wrote perceived, so you are mistaken. Either way people are still sending money to somebody who they don't know is innocent, and that is where the ignorance based on ideology enters. Zimmerman must be innocent if the media believes he is guilty!

Perhaps this is unrelated to this case but I wonder how "Self defense" rulings work, generally.

If I were to antagonize and antagonize someone to the point where they lash out at me then I use force to stop them, do I bare any responsibility?
