Conservatives Are Going Nuts Over Elizabeth Warren Claiming That She's Native American - Business Insider
The controversy over Elizabeth Warren's claim to Native American ancestry shows no signs of dying down, and is now threatening to derail her campaign for Republican Scott Brown's Massachusetts Senate seat.

Politico reporter Maggie Haberman has now uncovered Pa 1997 piece from the Fordham Law Review that refers to Warren as "the first woman of color" hired by Harvard Law School
...
Conservatives have also demanded that proof that Warren is 1/32 Cherokee, as she claims.

Breitbart.com has turned the issue into a cause célèbre, publishing almost daily stories that claim debunk Warren's ancestry, including one alleging that one of Warren's forebearers actually rounded up Cherokees for the Trail of Tears.

Warren's response hasn't helped quell the firestorm. Despite first denying that she knew anything about the minority listing, she now repeatedly claims to be "proud" of her Native American heritage, something she rarely, if ever, mentioned before the story broke.

To make matters worse, when reporters asked for more evidence of her ancestry, Warren told them that her "papaw had high cheekbones just like all the Indians do," and directed them to her cousin's cookbook, Pow Wow Chow.
I'm torn between laughter and sadness ... seeing someone falling on their own sword - political suicide it is.

I'd like an America where claiming 1/32 Cherokee was considered as important and newsworthy as claiming 1/32 Scottish.
Some would argue it's every bit as newsworthy as a fifty year old hair cutting incident ... and a lot more recent. ;)

Getting more and more relavent as each day brings forth more false claims.

Did you know she was the 1st women to tak ethe NJ bar exam while breast feeding? She makes the claim.

And now she's remembered that it was she herself that checked the box claiming to be a native american. Don't pay attention to her claims of the last 5 week that claimed she did not.

Lie-awatha's campaign is about to implode.

Don't know what's going on with all these claims but frankly I don't care.

Every time I've heard her speak she is freakin' BRILLIANT. She has a position of power which she, as best as I can tell, seems to be earned on a career and work ethic that has been above reproach. She is intelligent smart and well spoken. She stands up for the American people.

What better reason to NOT elect her in the modern American politick!

She's a piece of work, to be sure.
I couldn't read the link (didn't work) but are you REALLY implicating her in the housing crisis because she flipped a few houses? I hope not because she flipped those houses IN THE 1990s?!
As smears go, that's pretty lame.

Did she do it naked or while trying to marry a lesbian lover?

Having Native Americans in your family tree, does not make one part of the tribe, so to speak.

I've got such ancestors in my family tree, along with Europeans from many different places, and probably some Africans in there as well. I still look like a white woman and that is my culture.

She was caught in a lie. I don't feel bad for her.

LOL - Are you serious?

First, it's not a smear; it's a fact. link (sans the http:// in front): bostonherald.com/news/politics/view.bg?articleid=1061136010

That it occurred in the '90's is utterly irrelevant to the hypocrisy of it - publicly decrying "predatory" banks and foreclosures while profiting from those very practices herself. Why is that "lame" to point that out?

Now, maybe she's "evolved" since then and has since apologized for what she did, I don't know. Do you?

Can you explain to me why you have equated "predatory banking" and "buying, renovating, and reselling houses"? Buying homes, renovating them, and reselling them can (and does) occur without "predatory banking".

Sure Griz, she decries "heartless foreclosures" but turns right around and makes a killing off flipping foreclosed homes.

Or, am I missing something?

My answers: 1) It would be lame if no real consideration for details was made. If a thorough vetting of circumstances and her imput were included, then I would say it would very NOT lame. But I don't see that here.

2) I don't know if she apologized. But I don't see why she would need to apologize for "what she did"?

Here is my question: IF she's so evil and hypocritical, why did she ONLY flip houses in the 90s? I mean really, has she flipped ANY houses in the last 15 years even?
What changed between 1990s and the housing and mortgage crisis of the aughts that made her NOT want to participate in this dirty underhanded and conniving practice that she was sooooooooooooo good at?

Well one, I didn't call her "evil." You did.

Two, what possible relevance exists in the fact that she "only" did it in the '90's? What were the '90's, some sort of "exempt decade" from hypocrisy, that whatever one did in that decade is immaterial or somehow deserving of automatic forgiveness? I *know* you don't want to assert THAT.

Three, I gave you an 'out' by pondering the possibility she may have somehow "evolved" in the last 15 years (as Obama is wont to do whenever the situation warrants), but you didn't take it. Why? Is the "evolution" from inconvenient truths not possible with her?

Four, you're making more of an issue with this than I am - which I also find curious.
