So I can never understand those who post controversial things on their facebook and then get all in arms when people post opposing viewpoints.
Someone posted this Obama quote regarding birth control on their facebook (with a rather arrogant picture of Obama):
The quote reads "No, you can't deny women their basic rights and pretend it's about your 'religious freedom'. If you don't like birth control, don't use it. Religious freedom doesn't mean you can force others to live by your own beliefs."
I posted that birth control wasn't a right, amongst other things. Someone else posted that it was all about control and access, and then the person who posted the picture talked about women being oppressed, and then the other person talked about how blacks and hispanics have long been exploited and on welfare, etc. My response to that garnered a "you're racist showing your true colors and I can't stand your brand of Christianity" type of post which then went on to further castigate me for letting children overseas starve.
And in one post I even mentioned that forcing companies to pay for birth control, even if they were against it, was doing the very thing Obama just said we shouldn't do.
The kicker was the sister of the original poster then comes on and asks me if I'm stirring up dissension and that the president just wants health care access for all and that my definition of health care must differ from his and that I should just 'let it go'.
So I asked her if she was trying to silence opposing viewpoints and told her that last I checked that was called censorship.
But seriously, when I post stuff like this on MY facebook, I generally welcome opposing viewpoints unless they're disrespectful. I wouldn't complain about someone who disagreed with me, especially if they were using rational argument.
I just don't get it.
