Yes, Jesus healed the man on the Sabbath of the Lord thy God, being in complete harmony with the work of God and told the man to get up and walk, and to carry away that which he had lain upon, therefore showing that the traditions of the pharisees were worthless and were negating the blessing of the Sabbath by their hard hearts by adding endless restrictions which God never spake, nor commanded. So we see not only Mercy and Grace upon the man, we see that Jesus clearly said, "...Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee." John 5:14;p, the very same thing He did for the woman caught in Adultery:Here is one thing I found interesting:
John 5:5-14
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
5 A man was there who had been [a]ill for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already been a long time in that condition, He *said to him, Do you wish to get well? 7 The sick man answered Him, Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when (A)the water is stirred up, but while I am coming, another steps down before me. 8 Jesus *said to him, (B)Get up, pick up your pallet and walk. 9 Immediately the man became well, and picked up his pallet and began to walk.
(C)Now it was the Sabbath on that day. 10 So (D)the Jews were saying to the man who was cured, It is the Sabbath, and (E)it is not permissible for you to carry your pallet. 11 But he answered them, He who made me well was the one who said to me, Pick up your pallet and walk. 12 They asked him, Who is the man who said to you, Pick up your pallet and walk? 13 But the man who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away while there was a crowd in that place. 14 Afterward Jesus *found him in the temple and said to him, Behold, you have become well; do not (F)sin anymore, (G)so that nothing worse happens to you.
Anyone else see what Jesus did here?
She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee [MERCY/GRACE]: go, and sin no more [OBEDIENCE TO THE COMMANDMENTS IN LOVE BECAUSE OF SO GREAT SALVATION, CHANGE OF HEART TOWARDS GOD]. John 8:11
In fact, the Ten Commandments begin in the same manner:
I [am] the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Exodus 20:2 [GRACE/MERCY]
Therefore... Exodus 20:3;p
And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Exodus 20:6 [OBEDIENCE TO THE COMMANDMENTS IN LOVE BECAUSE OF SO GREAT SALVATION, CHANGE OF HEART TOWARDS GOD] [Now see John 14:15]
Additionally the 38 years is also very specific, since it points to another 38 years in the scripture, the 38 years of Israel in the wilderness, when finally all the old rebellious generation died out [except Joshua and Caleb], and only the new obedient generation was left who were willing to be obedient to God for His so great salvation, and finally were able to enter into the promised land...
And the space in which we came from Kadeshbarnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, [was] thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the LORD sware unto them. Deuteronomy 2:14
