Hey Flipper, I understand the running around with active kids and having to do the fast food thing, but there are healthier options when you have to eat fast food. Almost every place has a grilled chicken sandwich that you can order without any sauce, or just get mustard on it. Also, skip the fries!!! They will do you in (and I always say Oh, I will just eat one or two give the rest to the kids. It never happens). Wendy's has baked potatoes and a lot of places have apple slices now. Salads are always an option, but watch out for high fat/calorie dressings! Hang in there!!

We do hit the healthier options. My kids actually prefer subway or Jimmy Johns. The problem is that it is all high in sodium - something that I watch closely when cooking at home. My body just isn't used to that, and I think that's what's driving the blood pressure up more than anything else. The kids tolerate McDonalds only because there is a play area, but they would prefer the burgers I make at home, or somewhere like Five Guys. I've kind of spoiled them like that on a lot of things, which is good, but not so much when you are in a hurry. We also do a lot of Lion's Choice - they like dipping the veggies in the chipotle ranch - which probably isn't the healthiest, but has to be better than fries.

I'm big on quick cooking, and make ahead meals (actually after typing this I'll be preassembling at least 10 healthy meals to put in the freezer). I recently got involved with a company called Wildtree that specializes in grapeseed oils, and other blends that are free of preservatives, fillers or allergens (i.e. peanut and tree nut free). At least on the nights we don't have a million activities we eat well.

On the SIL's situation, she is taking the retirement package. She was told that if she fights, and gets fired, she could be stuck with the school's attorneys fees. She just doesn't want to take the chance. Included in the package is the provision that they won't go after her license, and she will get a letter of reference. The cops told her 3 weeks ago that they were going to send the case to the prosecutors 2 weeks ago. She still hasn't been arrested or charged.

Hi, Cally. :)

Flipper, it seems as though your SIL has made the choice to move on. It has to be tough, but perhaps she and the entire family can put it all behind them. What a horrible situation to be placed in. :(

Hi Cally!!

Flipper, I will continue to pray for your SIL. Hopefully she can now heal from all this and move on. What a sad and messed up situation for your family!

Well, we made it through Confirmation this past Sunday! The service was beautiful and I am very proud of my son for taking the vows to be a member of the Church so seriously! :)

Three weeks until we get married. Hopefully I won't shoot myself (or somebody else) before then. Our parents quite literally hate each other, and that's making things very complicated in terms of getting ready.

:o

Surely not, Mel. Are there bad feelings because of wedding plans? If it's more than that, I can't imagine how awful that could potentially be for you guys.

No, it's not just wedding plans, it's everything. They hate each other's guts.

I'm so sorry. Just do your best to enjoy your day. If the family members are that self absorbed with their hatred for each other to not let you enjoy your wedding day without the drama, they are being VERY selfish. Prays that you have a wonderful day and happy marriage. :)

Boy did I get attacked big time on Facebook yesterday. Someone had posted a link of 14 ways to change someone's mind about gay marriage and I posted it still didn't change my views then they asked why I thought that, so I made a blanket post on my blog and linked it (Things That Will Drive Me Crazy: Same-Sex Marriage and Why I oppose it) which stirred an uproar. It led to someone posting it (in what I would call a hateful post) on their wall to 500 people. So I edited it to include the Nicene creed at the bottom and thanked people for sharing because it shows some people, regardless of the outcome, aren't afraid to stand up and voice a differing opinion.

Happy last day of Med School, Mel! I will be praying for you and all the strife between the families to be resolved and if not resolved then set aside so you and GCC can have the beautiful day you deserve. If THAT can't happen, elope to your Pastor's office and just have the non strife makers be there. I'm sure your Pastor(s) would be agreeable.
