Which makes Mormons about 0.06% of the population. That's pretty small, less than one in a thousand. Still, I'm surprised it's that large.

Indeed, and it's an old & established community, dating back to 1860-1870s and the first Mormon missionaries. In comparison, our better known old Jewish and Tatar (Muslim) communities, which also trace their roots back to the 19th century and the separation of church and state, are smaller: 1,300 Jews and 900 Tatars.

Why Utah, btw?

DH's job. We used to be career expats. Our stay in Utah was very short indeed, as we could not "fit in". At all. Thankfully, DH's employer quickly arranged a relocation to Arizona, where it was sun & fun all the way all the time. :)

uhmmm that would be his anti-women stances that Ricky likes to take so much. :sorry:

Aw, poor tulc, either you are wearing those cute rosy-hued sun shades or you are one cup short of caffeine. I hate to break it to you, but in elections, how many actually vote for or even care to find out about the candidate's actual agenda and how many go for all sorts of irrelevant external stuff and vote for someone because he looks like a nice guy and with such a cute family too? Image is everything. Substance comes a distant second.

LOL ... OK ... I'll help you out again, CurlyFries. I'm surprised you can't find this stuff on your own though. I thought Ron Paul taught you guys better than that.

Start with this from Findlaw which was written in support of Schwarzeneggar: FindLaw's Writ - Dean: The Pernicious "Natural Born" Clause of the Constitution

It's not my job to go hunting for sources to prove your statements in a discussion ;) That's just simple rules of debate :p

Anyway, unfortunately your source leaves out the part where you can be a citizen for fourteen years (as long as you are 35 or older) but not be natural born and still become President.

Why are you surprised?

Nope, and as a libertarian myself, I fully support you with your choice to remain ignorant ... just as I support my own right to offer information to you from time to time.

You seem to be confused, CurlyFries.

On one hand we could have a discussion ... which seems to be an accurate description of the usual exchanges on Christian Forums. On the other, we could have a debate ... which rarely seems to happen on Christian Forums, btw.
Anyway, unfortunately your source leaves out the part where you can be a citizen for fourteen years (as long as you are 35 or older) but not be natural born and still become President.
Can you provide exact wording and a link to a definitive reference for that, please. Thanks. ;)

Thanks for the additional info, Kalevalatar. I suppose it's also a testament to the determination of the Mormon missionaries ... doing God's work and all. Back in the old days, a two year mandatory missionary requirement wouldn't have been enough time for real missionary work after travel time was subtracted.
DH's job. We used to be career expats.
Ahh ...

Reminds me of the time I interviewed with the Finn who set up Nokia's operations in Dallas/Ft. Worth.
Our stay in Utah was very short indeed, as we could not "fit in". At all.
LOL ... it's a common refrain. When I lived in the Dallas metroplex, we had neighbors across the street who moved to Salt Lake and said the same thing. They moved back across the street in less than two years. ^_^

Hispanics do well in Utah though, but they bring their own culture with them.
Thankfully, DH's employer quickly arranged a relocation to Arizona, where it was sun & fun all the way all the time. :)
Maybe not all the time. A few years ago we visited Arizona in March/April and experienced a freak snow-storm in the Painted Desert. They had four inches of snow that day. That same day we witnessed a multi-car pile-up on I-40 near Winslow which had been caused by a dust storm which also closed the freeway for most of the day.

Please stop the psychotherapaeutic emotional assumptions of the "leftists" (do you mean, less than extreme rightists?) who are "terrified" of some politician who is going to beat down our "terribly liberal" (do you mean center-of-right?) President Obama.

The only emotion us "leftists" are experiencing in view of comments like these is frustration given these ridiculously false appeals.

Conservative chicks like Santorum. Surprise surprise. If it was socialist closet homosexual males who liked him -- well, that'd be news.

Agreed.

Don't ya just hate it when distortionist propaganda goes down in flames? Liberal chicks, who weren't gonna vote for Rick Santorum anyway, still won't. Conservative chicks, who were gonna vote for Rick Santorum, still will.

Propaganda, unless we're very technically talking about its historical meaning, is by definition distortionist. And no, I like it when nonsense goes down in flames. That includes virtually the entire media. (If only.) :)

Santorum is macho. On top of that, he loves his wife and kids. Real women (not the hateful, bomb throwing feminazi types) like this.

And intelligent people don't vote with their genitals. If macho is a political qualification, then i demand I be allowed in the seals based on my empathetic skills.

Maybe women voters want their male leaders to be macho.
(pennmark doesn't understand why this is bad. :))

Some may, of course I doubt that's going to translate into his actually winning the nomination let alone having any chance in the Presidential Elections. ;)
tulc(really hopes Ricky gets the nomination because that would be a legendary loss that would eclipse even McCain's loss!)

Macho is good for a worker, or a fighter. The typical macho attitudes lend themselves to being manipulated. However, for a leader who will be dealing with complex subjects, having to balance local and foreign issues, and maintain his countries strength without overstepping his bounds, I tend to prefer such things as intelligence and flexibility.

Ignorant of what? Requesting a source doesn't mean I'm ignorant, it just means I'd like to see where you are getting your information.

Debate and discussion are the same thing. The only difference between the two is that for it to be a debate, the people involved have to be of opposing viewpoints.

We have opposing viewpoints. Therefore, any discussion between us is a debate.

Can you provide exact wording and a link to a definitive reference for that, please. Thanks. ;)
Happily. http://www.usconstitution.net/const.txt

No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

But really, though, why are you surprised that Finland's Mormon population is as big as it is (which isn't really very big at all)?

LOL ... it might be more accurate to say that our viewpoints are often enough different to make discussion interesting. Our discussions hardly qualify as debate.

It does seem like you've gotten a little peeved at me recently though. Was it something I said? ;)

There are some on this forum whose expressed viewpoints actually are diametrically opposed to my own.

I don't think this means quite what you think it means ...

We disagree on a great number of things, which means any time we have a discussion about those topics, it's a debate :p

Well, I'll admit your lovefest for Santorum irks me :p But overall I have no issue with you. *shrug* I like you :p

I don't think this means quite what you think it means ...

I verified it with a law student studying the Constitution and her professor. It's explicit. To be qualified to run for President, you have to be:

1) Natural-born citizen
2) Normal citizen
3) Citizen for fourteen years
4) 35 years old

Meet those four qualifications and you're set.

See my preceding response to Kalevalatar.

I read it multiple times but I think I missed it...rephrase?

Why is this thread still going? According to every poll I've seen, Obama leads Santorum by like 20% among women.

People like to delude themselves into thinking that popularity among Republican women = popularity among ALL women :p

"It is interesting how you leftists enjoy pigeonholing everyone."

Right after saying all liberals are afraid of Santorum.

Hawk is constantly "pigeonholing" leftists :p I pointed that out to him but he didn't respond :p
