I'd love to, but the one time I tried it in the living room, it poofed up in smoke, and the smoke alarm went off, and I put the lid on after the small explosion, and of course, snuffed out the whole thing. lol I didn't know what I was doing, obviously. :D
Hilarious....:) But at least it was all done in the attempt to pray/learn how to get it done:clap:

And so glad you survived the experience

I used to use incense a lot during my evening prayers. I only use it every once in a while now. Most of the time I'd rather just do the prayers and not worry about taking the extra time for the incense.

I have a handful of different kinds. My wife got much of our incense a few years ago when she was in Greece. We still have a good reserve of it. Most of the rest of our incense comes from Holy Archangels Monastery in central TX. We use charred grapevines for our charcoal which we grind down to a powder. Those vines also come from that same monastery.

I didn't know you could use grapevines for charcoal!!!!!! Will have to look into that

When I get three paychecks in June, I am going to try the sticks from Desert Father Incense. I have never had any luck with the charcoal. You can get the incense and the holder for not bad price. The shipping to where I live is rather high, but I am going to give it a try.

haha, we had a similiar experience in the barracks recently, where a guy lit some stick incense and had a ton of folks freaking out when they started to smell it coming out of his room. could only imagine what would happen if I lit my censor...

What are some of the best places, in your view, to get stick incense from since it seems easier to use than charcoal?
Desert Fathers Incense is the only producer of Orthodox Christian stick and cone incense in North America.

With gays openly honest/out of the closet in the Army, I imagine incense will be the least of your problems in the barracks! eesh....

ugh, don't get me started on that one

I'm not an EO (just a lurker here, that enjoys reading about EO)...But I sometimes use incense when in worship. Worship should be beautiful, and I think that includes beautiful smells. So that is why I use it.

yep, it lets the nose engage in the worship, and welcome to TAW!

I'm an independent, leaning Democrat a little more than anything, but the gays in the military thing, oh man, no way. My dad is a Vietnam vet and lifetime Army, my grandpas both WWII airforce and army respectively, what that gay stuff must do to morale in the barracks...I can't begin to imagine.....and the politically correct feeling the boys must get afraid of being slapped with harassment, etc. Oh man...I don't envy you guys. I'd flip. And you being a conservative republican, way more conservative than I am, you must be squirmin'!!

well, it's more that there is a reason men and women are separated during training like Basic or AIT or whatever. there is a reason why we don't share the same barracks or bays, or showers, or are left overnight in the same room. I have a feeling something could happen. but whatever, what is done is done. tis not my place to question it.

I always light a tea candle for prayers, but as far as scents, I have an electric oil burner. I burn it whenever I feel like, regardless of prayer time.
How much did the electric oil burner cost you? I am not 100% certain if it'd be wise to invest in one for my own prayer times (as funds are tight).

You ought to be able to find 100 of them for five or six dollars.
