I'd like to hear more about your guys' thoughts and feelings for him. Always knew of him, but not much about him.

there are Egyptians who go to my mission parish, who refer to him as St Shenouda and the new Athanasius.

Yes , that's true
He was the Church rock, 41 years as Patriarch for all St. Mark see, He was 89 years and very sick of kidney and cancer but he didn't stop his weekly lecture for the people till the last week of his life, he always forgive , he forgave the Muslims who wanted to attack the Patriarchal Cathedral , he loved all the people even his enemies as the Lord teachings , Yes he was Man of God ... RIP Father

I deeply loved him. I am a convert to the Coptic Orthodox church, and one of the things that drew me to join the Coptic Church was the humility, love and respect that Was in His Holiness Pope Shenouda. He was passionate about dialoguing with his fellow christians, while at the same time not compramising Key Doctronal positions, such as divorce. He wrote his books in a simple manner for every person to understand, even though he held countless university degrees. He spoke to the people also in a like manner, not like a university professor who thinks he knows everything. He loved Jesus Very deeply, loved the Church, and loved his flock.

He also was first and foremost a monk. Firstly this is seen by the fact that HH Pope Shenouda was buried at a monastery. Secondly it was said that even after becoming the Patriarch of the Coptic Church he would go to the monastery to pray during the week.

I Would like to share with you, brothers and sisters, the story of how the late Pope Shenouda became a bishop. Pope Cyril 6, who wanted to ordain Then Father Antonios a bishop told the Fr that he would like to make him a bishop. the Fr refused the office, in humility and humbleness. This happened countless times. Until Saint Pope Cyril summoned Fr Antonios to discuss church matters, amongst other things. Whilst Fr Antonios was doing a prostration in front of his patriarch, St Pope Cyril laid hands on Fr Antonios and said "I now declare you bishop of Christian education", at which point Fr Antonios, now Bishop Shenouda, said "God's will be done".

We miss him dearly, and May God help the Holy Synod choose a successor to replace him.

That's an awesome story. I've heard of this happening throughout the history of the Church will men will be "tricked" into becoming priests, bishops, etc.

Also, I have heard much the same said about His Holiness. Sounds like an amazing man of God. I assume some of his books are translated into English? If so, can you suggest one of your favorites?

I loved The Nature of Christ, which clearly explains the Oriental Christology. Interesting read for all orthodox, to better understand each other's beliefs. I also loved Comparative theology, a book exposing the errors of protestantism using nothing but the bible. Divinity of Christ was also a very good read.

Here is a link to some of his books in English:

H. H. Pope Shenouda III, 117th Pope and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark
