The enemy comes to kill, steal, and destroy.

What Scriptures define these? I realize that the enemy wants to kill us but doesn't Yahweh have the final say in that? Steal - The word? Destroy - our faith? the church through division? We're to wear our spiritual armor. I just keep wondering if there are some dots on the puzzle that I'm missing. You guys have a better handle on this Scripture than I do. Kill who? Kill what? steal what? steal who? destroy what? destroy who? Other?

Also, Scripture says don't be ignorant of his devices II Cor 2.

yes, many times it is thru giving us a chance to doubt what we know and have learned, or in causing us to look at our circumstances instead of looking at God and His word. two examples? Eve in the garden, Peter when he walked on water.

to steal, satan will delay blessings or help on the way to us. if we are down he will agree with us that we have a right to be down, that things won't get better, that there is no way out of where we are, etc.
examples, John the Baptist in prison.

and again, he will cause mocking and division to come our way in order to stop our progress, or illness, or death. whatever he can put in our way to hinder us or the message he will do. examples, the apostles, Christ.

but all these come because we are in a place where he thinks he can reach us. When we are hedged about by God's protection and in God's will, he cannot reach us, though he will try to do so.

God is our God, Jesus is our Saviour, and the Holy Spirit is there to remind us of God's word and His promises.
Our faith sustains us, and helps us to conquor anything that satan can send against us.

Death will never stop us.
Chains cannot defeat us.
Mocking words can be deflected and never hurt us because satan used the same things on Christ, and He triumphed over all, thus giving us the victory.

one thing important to remember is that satan never changes.
He always uses the same tactics. So if he lies then we need to remember God's truth.
If he tries to cheat us, then we need to remember where our provision comes from and how faithful God is.
And if statan tries to steal what is owed to us, then we need to remember that God will restore it, shaken together, pressed down, and overflowing. AMEN!

With Christ on our side we cannot be defeated, because we are on the side of God and defeat is not in his vocabulary.

Take that scripture and apply it to your life.

Anything that steals, kills and destroys is of and from the demonic.

Anything that brings good is of and from God.

Once something in life is defined and determined to kill steal or destroy then scripture tells us to resist the devil and he will flee.

That then brings up the subject of how to effectively resist the devil.

For an excellent study on this issue, get a hold of "The Believer's Authority" and "The Triumphant Church" by Kenneth Hagin. Both give fantastic insight into the subject.

if you submit yourself to God, the Devil is resisted.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Can't say that one automatically gains the other. Two things the believer is to do. FIRST is to submit to God. SECOND is to resist the devil. Both commands that the Believer is responsible for.

I appreciate your responses. Thanks!

We can submit ourselves to God and should. However that will not stop those things that kill, steal and destroy in our lives.

One must DO what God says to DO.

Start with an in depth study on the Name of Jesus.

The enemy will try and kill, steal and destroy our relationship with Jesus and prevent our Salvation. He will use any and all things of this world, money, lust of the heart and even people to deceive us. This is why we must remain strong in our faith by arming ourselves with the WORD. Prayer is another armor we have been blessed with.

If you are submitting to God you are automatically resisting the devil. When you submit you are yielding yourself from your way of doing things and doing them Gods way. When you are yielded and doing it Gods way it is resisting the devil.

Curious.

So, it would seem that you would be of the mind that Paul, in the instance of his thorn, was not submitting to God? Would I be correct in saying this?

The devil is resisted with the name of Jesus and believing and saying about the situation what God says about it in His Word instead of what the devil is telling us in our thought life, by circumstances, and other ways.

The battle with the devil is won or lost in the mind with our thoughts.

If our thoughts are full of the Word of God we will experience Overcoming.

If our thoughts are full of devil inspired doubt, unbelief and fear of what is going to or might happen, even though we are Overcomers, we will not experience the overcoming. We will be run over by a defeated foe.

it might be more accurate to say that he learned to submit to God concerning that matter, since Paul asked and received the same answer from God three times before accepting the answer.

I would be more of the mind that Paul fully submits to God. But as he taught us in Romans 7 sin is still in our flesh making us do things we will not to do. The messenger sent to buffet Paul needed some resisting, not a wave of God's mighty hand to make it go away. All the while, Paul was fully submitted to God, preaching the gospel, teaching the church, planting new churches, etc.

In other words, it wasn't submitting to God that made the buffeting stop, it was taking up his dominion and authority over the buffeting messenger of the enemy. God's grace was sufficient.

This is all so true, Optimax. But it goes one step further: not only do we have to fill our mind with the Word, but THEN we have to wield that sword. Too many Christians are defeated who KNOW the Word, but will not USE the Word.

that's interesting! the way i have heard it taught was that it was Paul's pride and self-righteousness that needed to be submitted to God, and thus the buffeting and subsequent pleas to be released from the buffeting which Paul saw as a hinderance affecting his ability to minister in an even greater manner.
