I don't look my age either. Everyone always guesses i am in my early or mid 30's and are quite shocked when they find out about my 23 yr old son. They mostly see me with my 3 younger ones running around. Most people wouldn't expect a 42 yr old to have a baby, but actually i have quite a few friends that have had babies in late 30's to early 40's. It seems to be more common now that people are waiting till 25-30 to get married.

Hello -- I'm 49 with a 12 yr old son, yet my younger sister of 42 has 5 grandchildren already. Her youngest child just turned 21. I also don't look my age, plus my son has passed me by in height and weight. I may be less anxious than younger 1st time moms. This could be due to already having a house, car, savings, job with insurance -- some things younger families are still working toward.

I've got 8 kids, 18 years to 4 and I'll be 42 this year. The teens keep me up late at night and the young ones are up early! Where does one find time to sleep lol! However I do love my kids and I do think they keep me young. I parent differently than I did in my 20's. I don't sweat the small stuff :)

I'm 40 with a 4yo, 6yo, 9yo, 11yo, 12yo and 3 teens.

We're currently collecting "stuff" to build a made-of-rubbish, self-propelled car. Basically my shaver broke and the kid in me decided it'll be more fun to build something together rather than throwing it away. Did the kids change me? Not sure, they may just have given me a reason to let the kid in my come out more often.

I am 43 and my youngest is 3. But my oldest is 19! and we have 4 more in between. I also look young for my age so people don't seem to know the difference... honestly I get more of a reaction when people see me with either of my oldest 2 who are 17 and 19 and 6 feet tall! Most people can't believe they're mine! Energy wise I can't say I notice much of a difference. I am healthier now, I eat better, exercise more, have less stress, and definitely don't sweat the small stuff like I did in my 20's! But physically I notice the difference. My back can't handle as much! But when you have 3 big teenage boys that doesn't matter so much either, there's not much lifting I need to do with them around.

BigMomma... my kids are just the opposite... my 3 year old keeps me up till 11 or 12, and I'm up at 6:30 to send my older kids to school!! Either way, I agree... it's hard to get enough sleep!

Wow, so I am back after a brief hiatus - so funny I have rediscovered this thread :)

So I am 46 now, my kids are now 10 and 7, and I have let go of the dream of adoption.

Here is the kicker, though: I work part-time in Treatment Foster Care. I was working directly with the kids, but now I am working with the foster parents. I think the knowledge I have gained in learning about issues that come up for foster parents and foster children (attachment issues, bonding, etc.) has really been eye-opening.

Also, I remember talking to someone about my desire to adopt a daughter from Haiti, and she was quite blunt in saying that international adoption is narrowing due to concerns about human trafficking - and that many international kids "up for adoption" already have mothers and family....(she asked me, "would you really want to take one of those kids away from their families? Because that's what you'd be doing." Well, of course not.)

I appreciate the responses and discussion this thread generated...sorry I didn't respond for *gulp* several years! (Grad school.)
