Hi guys, I am a Christian but I have a question about whether or not belief in God is enough to be saved.

Somewhere in these 77 pages, this answer must have come up, but if not ...
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." Eph. 2:8, 9

So we can't earn salvation by works, but works are prepared ahead of time by the Holy Spirit who works through us. What James was saying is, "by their fruit, you will know them." We don't produce fruit by ourselves, GOD DOES, since He is all that is good emulating through us. If the Light reflects off you, should someone say it is coming from you or God? So when James expects to see works, he does not mean works generated by man but works of God through us. He is love. We reflect and radiate that love. Of course we are participating, willingly doing His will. Give Him the credit, don't boast, otherwise you'll be like the Pharisees who blew their trumpets when they gave to the poor and did good deeds to be noticed and glorified. "Oh look, there are the Pharisees ... giving ... what wonderful, godly men are they!"

Don't we want to look around when we do a good deed to see if anyone is watching? Don't we want to be noticed and praised? "Oh, you're a saint!" "Gee, thank you ... it's nothing ... really!" And if we aren't noticed, most of us have an urge to tell someone the nice deed, offering or big tithe we gave. Is that what James expects from you? Cause, Jesus criticized the pharisees for doing such things and being white washed tombs and condemned them to Gehenna.

Believers are not under the law,,, it is a righteous standard that our King Jesus has fulfilled for us, not a code that we have to follow.

People don’t understand that under the law means… you are not under grace.

And we will live a better life under grace than under the law… because grace enables us to live a better life.

If we are under grace the Holy Spirit is at work in us… and we grow in grace.

Nobody is disputing that we are under Grace but we are also under covenant, some people forget that.
Actually we have no rights because it was Jesus Christ that obtained our covenant for us and so has the right to be our advocate, saviour and judge. We are under law because those laws are now written in our hearts. If we stumble we have an advocate, so how could we stumble and sin if we don’t have law? We are free from the curse of the Mosaic law as long as we abide in Christ our saviour.

I must've missed it or something. If you do not mind, can you please show me the post where you proved that keeping the LORD's commandments does not mean a person is born of God?

uh uh. our contention is faith alone, so i asked u for 1 verse, showing how the cross, had anything to do with keeping commands.

u know what i mean...

did the cross make us holy, heb 10;10, or commands. faith alone, the cross, or commands?

please advise.

no no..Pal used Abe, and faith to ward off law, saying blessed in abe, cursed under law, please reconsider.

gal 3;9 So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

10 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.”

NEW TESTAMENT - The New Covenant

For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more." By calling this covenant "new, " he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear. Hebrews 8” 12-13

For this reason Christ is the mediator of a NEW COVENANT, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant. Hebrews 9:15

(Jesus, the one who made the will died on the cross)
because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living. Hebrews 9:17

There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Galatians 3:26-29.

OLD TESTAMENT - The New Covenant - The Promise

Jeremiah 31
31 "The time is coming, " declares the LORD, "when I will make a NEW COVENANT with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
32 It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them, " declares the LORD.
33 "This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, " declares the LORD. "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
34 No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD, 'because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, " declares the LORD.” "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."
35 This is what the LORD says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar— the LORD Almighty is his name:
36 "Only if these decrees vanish from my sight, "declares the LORD," will the descendants of Israel ever cease to be a nation before me."
37 This is what the LORD says: "Only if the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth below be searched out will I reject all the descendants of Israel because of all they have done," declares the LORD.

Is the cross not the New Covenant that the LORD is talking about in the above passage?

So there is no hope for believers who stumble then? The scripture doesn’t say leave it alone it tells us to confess our sins because we have an advocate with the Father.
The real problem is the way justification doctrine is taught, it doesn’t matter what state of law we are in, in fact denies the law completely and so results in Christians that are justified whatever state of unrighteousness they are in. They have liberty to do all sorts of things and some take liberty for licence. Our saviour commanded us to keep his law/commandments. We are under covenant agreement and we now have an advocate.

How do you become holy in Jesus Christ?
O Lord, you alone are holy. (Revelation 15:4)

the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. (Hebrews 2:11)

we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. (Hebrews 10:9-10)

by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. (Hebrews 10:9-14)

Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. (Hebrews 13:11-12)

It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, that is, our holiness (1 Corinthians 1:30)

Yes I did, why did Christ fulfil all the law? The law was fulfilled not to make Christ holy but to make us holy. He is the great high priest and no doctrine of justification can save you, the doctrine only has power because we have an advocate under covenant. ALL OUR justification is with Christ and between Christ and the Father in holy and eternal covenant. Forgiveness is in him and justification is in him. He has the right to present us or deny us to the Father. Those commandments are now not under Mosaic Law they are in Christ. The curse of the Mosaic Law has lost its sting only because we have an advocate and continue to abide in him by faith.

I have no clue what you guys are talking about, but I saw this question and it reminded me of these verses:

Hebrews 9:16-22
16 For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. 17 For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives. 18 Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood. 19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20 saying, “This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you.” 21 Then likewise he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry. 22 And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.

Hebrews 9:23-28
23 Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; 25 not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another— 26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. 27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

Matthew 26:26-28
26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” 27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Galatians 3:13-14
13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Deuteronomy 21:23
His body shall not remain overnight on the three, but you shall surely bury him that day so that you do not defile the land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, for he who is hanged is accursed of God.

Jesus died over 2000 years ago, for the sins of the Whole World… that’s past, present and future sins of the whole world. He died for the sins of people that will never accept His gift of salvation. You can’t get anymore forgiven than you are right now in Christ… we don’t confess our sins to keep saved… we confess them because we love our Father… plus if you are a true child of God He will discipline you if you don’t repent…

He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:2

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:18-20

We don’t confess our sins to keep saved…

I never said we confess sins to get saved, maybe you are taking them out of context or there is some misunderstanding?
With respect, you keep quoting random verses without much reasoning. We do all know the scriptures.

I'm not quite sure what you guys are talking about either...but

1 Peter 1:13-16
13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
