Is it an obligation for Christians to "clean up" things that are out there? Take this poll for me. Thanks in advance.

Perhaps, I should have added religious themes. So if you say religious themes, put that down with racial slurs.

I am usually anti-censorship. Although very graphic violence and sexual content I will agree should be monitored. Or at the very least put on late night cable television when the kids aren't watching.

Although I will disagree on harsh language and slurs; to an extent. Allowing slurs and harsh language on television, but following up on the slurs to teach why it is inappropriate to use that language, I think would be more valuable than outright banning.

Everyone has some free will, and that should not be suppressed in anyway. Suppression is the wrong way. There are better ways to deal with it. Like education and information. It may take longer but in the end eduction and science is the only way. Otherwise it's not free will and nobody learns.

Peace!

I am very against politics of all forms- I do not believe that a Christian should be involved in politics at all. However each Christian should censor in their own lives what is not edifying and profitable.

If the Lord came back and I was doing _____________ would I be ashamed?

Sometimes I agree, I find myself largely apathetic in many ways. However, when politics can achieve something that is in tune with the Kingdom of God (such as combating human trafficking or better stewardship of the environment) then it becomes beneficial.

I do see your point. However my "Citizenship is in heaven" Philippians 3:20 and we are... "not of the world," John 17:16

We are also called to be ambassadors of Christ. An ambassador is someone who is put into another country to be a representative of their own homeland. We are in the world as an ambassador of Christ. An ambassador has no say in the politics of the land in which they are in.

We also read in Peter that "The powers that be are ordained of God" if that is the case then often those who are in power are not who I would have chosen to be in power but the Lord's ways are not our ways and who can fathom the mind of God or understand his purposes.

Good answers. I find myself in saying yes and no to all of it. And no then yes after I reread it.

There is a good point above, we need to censor our own lives, make sure we do not fall into these things.

It would be easier if Hollywood's address was not in hell, then maybe some of these things wouldn't get air time anyway.

If these shows were only on at night may help, but here is a little rule of thumb; if it is not intended for children, it is not intended for adults either.

Keep them coming. This is good research material for me.

I voted "none of these" because censorship is a violation of the First Amendment.
Hey Friend, Thanks for your answer.
I would agree with you to an extent. I believe in the 1st amendment. But there are major problems with the 1st amendment if we allow it as is. Such as we have freedom of religion but does that mean we should allow human sacrifice? We have freedom of speech but doe sthat mean I can print lies to destroy someone's reputation? We have freedom of assembly but does that mean my group can block ambulances from getting out to save people? I am sure you see where I am going. With the 1st amendment comes real responsibility. So if we allow anything on TV since they have freedom of expression, is it okay if they put inappropriate content on Nickalodeon or the Disney Channel? See what I mean? Where do we draw the line.

Why? Could you share?

Sorry if I was being vague. I just don't like the government overcensoring and micromanaging. Laws should be in force for the protection of people and the country, and I don't see anything on the list that would cause any of that.

I don't think people should be scared of language or offended by someones choice of words. I take graphic violence to mean in films, books, video games...I think people should be able to decide this on their own merit, and I reject theories it contributes to a violent society. We were always a violent society way before this was introduced. I think the same about being able to choose to view strong sexual content, and it should be up to a person whether they are patriotic or not.

Thank you for your honest answer. Here is the only problem I have with this. Suppose, just suppose, that ll entertainment starts to allow these things in. You go to a movie that is rated PG. You think it is okay because of the lower rating and all of a sudden you see things that are not appropriate and your child is sitting next to you. What do you do? It is too late, the damage for the day is done. I have seen G movies have cursing in it. How it got the rating is because the shock value is disappearing at an alarming rate. Why did they have to put it in there is beyond me. These ratings should not change. The standards keep dropping and if that happens then the choice to go see a family movie is gone. Some of these movies have this unexpectedly in them and you can not prepare for it. Trust me, a little inappropriate content goes a long way. A little violence does effect you. But you are right, the human race had alwasy had these in them but we do not need to feed the fire. Desire breeds in the mind untill it gives birth to sin.

I think there should be warnings before shows, as there are on some shows, now. I agree that you should not let the TV babysit your kids. I think that with the TV rating system that you should put a password on the TV for certain ratings if you have kids. If you agree to let them watch, then let them watch and watch it with them. We (adults) shouldn't be barred from seeing and hearing certain things just because there's a 1.3% chance some kid somewhere will still be up at 9:00 and hear it. Parents need to play a bigger role in raising their children.

More on the ratings; it is useful for adults, too. If you prefer not to hear bad language then you won't watch the show when you see the bad language warning. You shouldn't be barred from seeing and hearing, but you should have the info available to you beforehand so you can avoid such situations if you prefer. People are too sensitive and the gov't is too busy trying to cater and please every overly sensitive person's complaint.

Let us be reminded that this world is not getting better. The ten commandments that were the basis of our laws only shows that the natural man cannot keep them.
The letter of the law kills. Only the Spirit gives life. Our country was established for a righteous people. When others overtake it with their ways, the result is what we have . Hollyweird and their values.
Preach nothing but repentance, we all need to hear it daily. Keeping our head above water and our wedding garment clean, our feet washed by the Word.
Encouraging each other more all the time as we see the day approaching.
my two cents today.

Oh I forgot to add. Noticed that in your list you used the word 'harsh', instead of vulgar or dirty. Would preaching repentance be considered harsh? Would it be unpatriotic? Would sure not be mild, and could be taken as a racial slur if everyone was included. Running out those money changers was graphic violence, and for strong sexual content the woman at the well had too many men.
Please know that I myself would that tv and our government had some morals.
Yet they are just a reflection of the more part of the people. What we settle for, they settle for.
Keep the faith. Be strong and couragious. We are in this world, just not of it.
