Ephesians 5:1-5

Hey everyone,

I am starting this project where I am going to attempt to read and study through the entire Bible..

This is going to be online of coarse. Every day or so I am going add a chapter a come verses. It's going to be a huge database. I am just getting started now.

Here is my latest study:

Ephesians 5:1-5
"1Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
3But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; 4Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. 5For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God."

Word Study:
V1a "..therefore3767 followers3402 of..":
•followers (mimaytace) meaning imitate God.

V1b "..as5613 dear27 children:5043..":
•dear (agapetos) meaning beloved; this is the same word that God used to describe His love for Jesus in Luke 3:22 and so on.

V2a "walk4043 in1722 love,26..":
•walk (pereepateho) meaning live out, go, be occupied with.
•love (agahpay) meaning affectionate, a feast of charity (love). This word also seen in John 15:13 and John 15:10 and John 13:35.

V3a "..But1161 fornication,4202 and2532 all3956 uncleanness,167 or2228 covetousness,4124 let.."
•fornification (inappropriate contentiah) translates to inappropriate contentography, including adultery.
•uncleaness (akatharseeah) meaning physical and morall impurity.
•covetousness (pleonexia) basically greed.

V3b "..becometh4241 saints;40.."
•saints(hagios) meaning sacred, physically pure and morally blameless, and holy

V4a "..Neither2532 filthiness,151 nor2532 foolish talking,3473 nor2228 jesting,216.."
•filthiness (aischrotes) meaning anything that causes shame
•foolish talking (morologia) a.k.a silly talk
•jesting (eutrapelia) meaning witty

V4b "..rather3123 giving of thanks.2169.."
•giving of thanks (eucharistia) being grateful, grateful acts of worship

Key Phrases:
Be ye therefore followers of God, walk in love

Observations:

* We are to imitate God with our lifestyle
* God loved us so much that he sacrificed His own Son for us
* We (Saints) must keep God's morals and be physically pure
* We must give thanks to God, and worship Him by it
* Jesus Christ and God own both the Kingdom of heaven — and so will the Saints.

Summary:
Imitate God as beloved children. Be persuaded by love just as Christ gave Himself up as a sacrifice. No Christian should lust, be morally corrupt, or greedy. It is not proper to do shameful things, or talk foolishly and wittyly. Instead, its much better to be grateful and give thanks. Anyone who is a prostitue or morally corrupt, foul person, greedy person who worships images or idols will not posses the Kingdom of God.

Point:
Be Saints of God, persuaded and alive in love, physically pure and morally blameless, and giving thanks.

hope you stary tuned :)

LOL I saw your current avatar with this message... it's great :) lol

Great study too! Try this when you read through it... put a box around every word (ie, He, Him, God, etc.) that you know is talking about God in that book...Then underline the main word dealing with Him in that scentence (see below for what I mean..)... Then once you have done that, go back and reread emphasizing the words you just boxed. I think that puts more emphasis on what the original intent of the passage was.

See if this makes a difference in how you read it....

1Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

I think you will find just these slight emphasis addings make your Bible say much more about God and give Him more glory. Have a great day!
