Here's a straightforward answer. Psychics don't exist. They use forms of mental manipulation, such as vagueness and inevitability, to lure you into a belief that they foresee a future occurence. So if a psychic claims to have received their "gift" from God, yes this is bad, and yes they can be considered false prophets. They're lying through their teeth.

No. Psychics do what they do to make money.

Prophets were called by God to motivate kings and citizens of Israel to repent, change, stop sinning in some way, etc.

For example, if Al Gore said God had called him to warn humanity about global warming and get them to change their behavior, then he would be acting like a prophet. If he claimed that God had called him, but was lying, then he would be a false prophet.

Not true. Some Psychics use witchcraft, which certainly DOES exist. They DO have power, but it is from Satan. I mean if they didn't have power, how do you explain how Saul saw a dead Samuel talking to him with his own eyes?

A Christian "psychic" is simply someone who's been given the gift of discernment. So, provided they use it with God's direction and guidance, when and where he tells them to, and not use it for their own glory or advancement, I'm not sure why we should be concerned.

As far as the gift of prophecy is concerned, the only way you know if it's true is if the predictions come true. If they don't then the person's a false prophet. If they do, then it may behoove the congregation the prophet worships with to listen to what they tell them.

A prophet is one who speaks for the Lord about the current and warns or foretells of destiny.

If a "prophet" is wrong, then he or she isn't a prophet. There is no such thing as a prophet without a perfect track record.

A Christian "psychic" is

A figment of someone's imagination. There is no such thing as a Christian psychic. That is an oxymoron. A psychic is a medium/witch/familiar spirit/wizard/false prophet. They are tools of Satan.

My use of the word psychic is merely out of habit. I have no other word for an individual who has the gift of discernment. This is why I put the word psychic in quotation marks. I am well aware of it's connotations.

What I'm saying is a Christian prophet or a Christian who has discernment are not false because they have the power of God, and gifts from God that can be used for the benefit of the church. If someone is using their gift by Gods calling then they can't be false.

I think maybe the word you were looking for is "prophet"?

I see a prophet as some one whom God speaks to about Himself. And the prophet acts as the liaison. Any warning or for tell of destiny I see as not having anything to do with what a prophet is.

Most psychics are frauds; the rest have demons.

The only way a person could be a false prophet is if they first claim to be speaking for God, and then, as PaladinValer pointed out, they fail to have a completely 100% perfect track record.

Can a person receive the gift of prophecy from God without it being false or demonic? Prophets of God do exist, after all. But modern-day prophets of God? I'm not sure about that.

What if an ordinary God-fearing modern-day Christian found himself with the ability to (accurately) see into the future? Would that ability be from God or Satan? Would a God-fearing Christian do his best to rid himself of such an ability or might he be justified in using it to benefit others?

Upon further reflection, I realize why man is not permitted to have psychic powers-- it would destroy free will and prevent a relationship with God!

What if Adam had foreseen the Fall of Eden before encountering the Serpent?

What if Peter and the disciples had telepathically discovered who among them was to betray their Master long before they ate the Passover?

If I can foresee the consequence of any choice I might make, would I still rely on God to keep me safe?
