I agree with some online bloggers: let the Taliban and mobocracy have at one another and remove Sahar Gul from further danger.

I am beginning to feel that once Sahar reaches some type of inner peace again, someone in the background will be waiting. The International community can aid Sahar by constantly showing an interest in her well-being.

She also deserves unlimited care packages of all kinds. I am attempting to find out whom best to entrust CPs to on her behalf. What group of interested individuals will ensure she receives them ASAP? I am sending out emails to organizations about CPs for Sahar, as I have not found a simple lead online. IF you KNOW whom to contact, please post how anyone may communicate with them. Purely rewarding, if she may begin to receive CPs soon.

There are so many items to put on the list that more than a few CPs are required. Besides soft and colourful objects --those fleece socks and blankets-- we share with one another, I suggest quality stuffed animals and vivid picture books of the animal kingdom or this or that. There are thousands of objects we can send her. Per this suggestion, anything that is not offensive to someone that has endured a lifetime of violence will do.

Because they sent her back to the abusers once before, I want to know she will remain in good hands until the day I die.

For now, though, I would be filling my residence with great esteem if I know I can send her CPs without fearing she may not receive them.

One group, Young Women for Change, has visited Sahar. I am hoping there are enough organizations out there that, at the very least, one is able to come through. Men count too. Of the minimal research I have done, it has been reported that Uleemas have communicated with Afghans that "baad" be banned. With a little time, I hope to have a go to person/group to send my CPs for Sahar to.

The Ministry of Women’s Affairs is handling Sahar Gul’s case. So far, they have not allowed most of the press to talk to her or get more information about her and it is not clear what will happen to her after she is out of the hospital. We visited her again.

She is not coming around.

Frogh also said, “We’ve provided her with a trauma counselor because she is very traumatized, and even when I want to take her hand, she resisted despite being unconscious. Now she doesn’t want anyone to even touch her.”

Noncooperative to offenders, Sahar Gul tops my list of individuals who stand firm. Braver than globalists, agent provocateurs, dehumanizers, supporters of dehumanizers, corrupt characters, and all who sabotage the progression of the female spirit, Sahar moves me.

I want to believe an ongoing online discussion of her whereabouts may be accepted after she is released from the hospital. Even if that discussion is not here. In other words, may the international community and responsive organizations not dump her status but keep a thin lead on her; special privacy intact so to speak. This is why. She was sent back to her abusers once before.

A local community leader in Baghlan province, Ziaulhaq, alleged that hush money was paid to government officials.
Although she emphatically denied money was paid, Rahima Zarifi, the women's affairs chief in Baghlan province, said she could not remember the details of the case, or why Gul was sent home.
Abdullah Fahim, an adviser to the Minister of Public Health, said the case was part of the ''bitter reality'' of Afghanistan.

Sahar's age is a concern.

“She is not that old,” Doctor Omarzada said. “I have washed her and I think she is only 13 now. I see she is not even a woman.”

Sahar moved this journalist:

I went to find Sahar Gul.

I have also read that her hands were broken.

As Sahar recovers this stranger wants to know she has an awareness of the commitment outsiders have for her. As long as her privacy remains intact and those who visit her are compassionate reminders of those insisting similar qualities she has shown, Sahar may positively reflect.

I am dismayed that if given an opportunity to send her CPs fleece will not be accepted. This is a small list of what I understand may be sent, but I am not 100 percent sure if this information is accurate.

*Photos or postcards
*Greeting cards
*Bookmarks
*A sheet of stickers for your sister and her children
*Stationery

There are a few others online who would like to send Sahar CPs. If anyone has feedback concerning CPs for Sahar, thank you for your future response.

Tell me, again, what is the real issue about Sahar Gul?

Contrary to what some people would like to imagine in order to boost their cultural egos, what was done to her is abhorrent according to the norms of every culture. There is absolutely no controversy of any kind involved. Not Western notions of equality versus Islam, not Western notions of equality versus tribal misogyny, not nothing versus anything.

Tell me, again, what is the real issue about Sahar Gul?

Narrow the discussion down to the needs of Sahar Gul and what services best meet those needs.

Sahar Gul's rights to self determination are violated. At the age of 13, as one physician reported her age after examination, Sahar Gul is not able to consent to marriage. The practice does not meet her developing needs or any need she may claim.

I do not condone child marriage. Do you condone it?

The practice of child marriage of girls is, according to many observers, the socially legitimized institutionalization of sexual abuse and marital rape, sometimes of very young girls, which has serious physical, psychological and health consequences for the girls involved.

Restitution and Justice

Ghulam Sakhi bought Sahar Gul. He violated EVAW law and Article Twenty-Nine Ch. 2, Art. 8 of the Afghanistan Constitution. Sahar Gul escaped. Ziaulhaq mentioned "hush money was paid to officials". Zarifi denies this but does not know the details of the case. Lawmaker Fauzia Kufi adds to input about the direction local authorities were taking. Sahar Gul was returned to a group known by the community to prostitute victims. Sahar Gul was tortured; she almost died.

Sahar's needs are met when her offenders are prosecuted, when an investigation is brought about to answer why she was returned, when she is provided with every effort to aid her in her recovery, and when the presence of the international community is confirmed.

If you sat down with Sahar Gul thirty years from now how would she describe to you the violence imposed upon herself and her sisters? Would she detail findings from ICRW, including how throughout the first decade of the twenty-first century over 100 million girls under 18 will be illegally married? Will she be posed to alert your attention to published material concerning trafficking in persons (TIP), including the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children? Today can you describe your future meeting with Sahar Gul by focusing on what she experienced and knew to be violations against her will? (Confirm in the presence of Sahar an eagerness to ensure charters and conventions such as The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child remain in the forefront of political enforcement.) If such a meeting were to take place in the future, would Sahar detect you have her best interests in mind? Would the two of you discuss known victories by human rights advocates and watchdogs concerning Article 16 of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and Article 3 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child? Most likely during this future meeting, if of course the International Community focuses on ensuring Sahar Gul's needs completely (self determination and education to name a couple), Sahar will contrast her knowledge of EVAW law and human rights with similar laws and accounts in other nations. Using her own customary paraphrasing skills, Sahar may inform you of her grief concerning Mohd. Ahsan's report.

In the SY 1390, there have been more than 90 cases of self immolation of women in Herat province only. The situation in other provinces seems to somehow resemble to that of Herat. Force and early marriages can be conceived a major reason behind women burning themselves and committing suicide. Some girls run away and get killed when captured.
Over the last ten years, no major step has been taken by Afghan government to stop forced marriages and encounter child bride problem. The suffering of women has rather increased. The Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission logged 1,026 cases of violence against women in the second quarter of 2011 compared with 2,700 cases for the whole of 2010. And according to figures in an Oxfam report in October, 87 per cent of Afghan women report having experienced physical, sexual or psychological violence or forced marriage.

Adding to her discourse her evaluation of the first year EVAW Law was enforced, Sahar may point out a slight difference in the following fact: "The vast majority of cases filed and prosecuted under the EVAW law in Herat are for battery or beating".

Even if you never have a future meeting with Sahar Gul, you understand that it is reported Afghanistan youths and women not only choose self-immolation as a way out but are also, in separate cases, forced to commit self-immolation.

Recovery

Sahar Gul does not need to continue to witness the violent acts of those in her community/nation. Upon her choosing if she decides to learn about the violent acts committed in her nation she does so of her own will.

almost 90 percent (!) of Afghan women have been victims of violence

Establish a depository for Sahar Gul to receive CPs.

Asylum Eligibility

Grant Asylum to Sahar Gul. Insist the International Community act in its capacity to have Sahar Gul withdrawn from further violence.

Not really no, but neither do I have any illusions about adulthood magically starting at the age of 18, and anyone younger than that being magically trapped in immaturity and childhood. Do you have any such illusions?

To make Sahar Gul into a case of child marriage is to imply that hers is a typical, average child marriage, and that what she went through was because of child marriage. Which is a blatant straw man and a massive red herring.

What you are doing is equivalent to picking a single story of a massively abusive adult marriage, broadcast it to the world, and hold it up as evidence for why adult marriage should not be condoned.

May God bless and protect her. If you find a way to send her a care package safely, let us know please and post on here.

My actions are void of negativity. In Sahar's case, CM was one mode of trafficking. The community reported the offender as more than suspect. The community also failed to support Sahar when she stated, as it is reported, "If you are A Muslim..." She asked them to question him/them. She thought better of them.

Therefore all acts of violence and mismanagement are issues to discuss when driven to ensure Sahar's present and future needs are met.

She is not an adult. Do not ignore her right to self determination. For the matter, not everyone has a liberal view on sex, nor want one imposed upon them. Sahar is not interested in sex, but is interested in meeting her expectations in her community which she wants positive feedback from.

Sahar, who I respect, is not the type to raise her future children to use violence against those they choose to marry.

The background of violence shown in this thread is a result of her present community and nation. A story is not pushed.

Trust funds for Sahar can be established. Care packages are one thing; each are needed because each one symbolizes something warm and soft. Trust funds are another thing; each to be used to secure her future. Forced to be a captive, she survived being tortured everyday. It is the duty of the international community and various interested parties to esteem superb conduct by demonstrating how easy it is to support those we respect. Bottom Line.
