Neither would I. However, neither of us has the right to force other people to do the same. That's stealing, plain and simple. Just because you don't keep the money you stole doesn't make it a lesser sin.
Bingo. The "we can take it because they wont miss it" statement is the same justification used by thieves and bank robbers. I guess that credo would be just fine if you were dictator since dictators are just thugs anyway. But there is no reason I can see to turn such an immoral code into standard operating procedure for government, particularly the government of a free people.

Boy...there's no way I'm as radical as you when it comes to taxes. There's a certain social good that comes from it. Helping the poor and those in need is part of that good. It's a Jesus sort of thing to help the poor and those in need. "WE", as a nation, are far better off for it. If you don't like it, too bad, I don't care. You can whine all you want about not wanting to help those in need. But any way you cook it, making our nation stronger by helping the poor and those in need comes way before "YOU", in my mind.

From your stance, it's looking to me like the Government is a sort of Robin Hood...stealing from the rich to help the poor and those in need. That sounds heroic to me...helping the poor and those in need.

But you conveniently leave out the stealing part. Is that heroic in your book? Can you point to me where Jesus advocates theft as a just means to help the poor? Or have you just gone that route on your own?

It means "help the poor and those in need". It's really that simple. You can have the attitude of wanting to help them, or the attitude of I don't want to. Jesus advocated helping them. How to help them he left up to us. Way too many here don't want to help them and make all sorts of excuses for why not. I don't get that. When it comes to helping the poor and those in need, Mother Teresa talks about giving until it hurts. She makes the analogy that God gave until it hurts and Jesus gave until it hurts, and we ought to do the same. And your complaining about it.

If you take it that we are robbing you to help the poor and those in need...well the Government from your perspective than is being Robin Hood.

A follow up question arises after a bit of contemplation...Do you see the government as stealing from you to pay for it's wars, some of which can be rightly argued as being illegal.

Those are the sorts of acts that steal from every one of us.

Cite an illegal war.

But also, let's start talking about the crushing debt that the government developed long before any war this century.

And then doubled it in four years.

Of course under each of these democratic party majorities the tyrant king essentially stole from the rich and said they were giving to the poor -- but that money just went to their own people.

General Electric didn't pay any taxes, remember?

That's true. Also, inflation is a way to steal from the poor to give to the rich.

It steals from the rich too -- at least people we call rich, but who are still working to generate capital for their business.

Here's another interesting graph:

Note the direction towards closure before the democratic majority in 2006.

.

It is not radical to think that the Government
should not be taxing people to redistribute wealth. The idea that the government should do so violates everything this country stands for.

It also violates God's word:

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
II Corinthians 9:7

and:
From every man whose heart moves him you shall receive the contribution to Me.
Exodus 25:2

What this means is that when you take from people against their will, you are extorting them and God wants nothing to do with it.

Furthermore:
If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
I Corinthians 13:3

Even if you took all of their money, it would be meaningless as they did it out of oppression, not love.

Not only that, but by claiming it's the Christian thing to do, you may cause non-believers to scorn and open yourself up to judgement.

So explain to me again how any of this is Christ-like?

:wave:Hey world wake up to what is really happening. I know some bad things happen at the Occupy protests, but that's inevitable when large crowds gather, especially when you have troublemakers being paid BIG money to destroy the movement. What deeply concerns me is how Republican people including Christians are being brainwashed against solving the root problems in America. The Bible is clear, the love of money is the root of all evil. Wall Street is a huge source of the problem. But anybody who advocates doing something about it is dismissed and slandered as some commie leaning socialist. It is blowing my mind how Christians are being so brainwashed, so gullible, and most not interested in discussing it. It's like the powers that be, corporate owned politicians and media have put up so many false roadblocks in their minds over the years, they cannot begin to see that Christians are just being used and distracted by the abortion and homosexuality issues to allow these multinational corporations to achieve profit and world domination while destroying democracy. The multi-national corporate overlords simply plant puppets on both sides of the abortion and homosexuality issues and the fight goes on forever, while they get away with robbing the economy and destroying America as we know it. Yet most Christians don't do anything about it except stay stuck in the same old thing. Get the bad root out first people!! After they destroy any semblance of a government that serves and helps its people, all we'll have left is a cruel antichrist government that only appears democratic and Christian on the surface. The Bible prophecies about strong delusion 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 and also that if possible, even the elect would be deceived Matthew 24: 24, 25. It seems that is being fulfilled. We are being sold a false gospel that is very bad news to the poor when it is supposed to be "gospel (good news) to the poor" Luke 4:8. Jesus said "Blessed are you who are poor for YOURS is the kingsdom (government) of God Luke 6:20. That is far from the way supposedly Christian politicians in the Republican party (modern Pharisees) portray Godly government. I pray you Republican Christians WAKE UP and help salvage what is left of democracy before it is too late. The Democrats are getting almost as bad in this regard because Christians are being duped, which allows the corporate monsters to plant more and more puppets on both sides. There is still some decent Dems left, but practically zero Repubs. Remember when Jesus said that sinners would get into heaven before the hypocritical Pharisees that presented themselves to the people as though they had all the religious knowledge and virtue? Jesus burst their bubble and they wanted to kill him. Don't support Pharisees, it is worse than futile.

Anyone who thinks OWS is about love of money has their head screwed on crooked.
