Quote of the day:

Pope St Gregory the Great (540-604)

“I say it without the least hesitation, whoever calls himself the universal bishop, or desires this title, is by his pride, the precursor of anti-Christ, because he thus attempts to raise himself above the others. The error into which he falls springs from pride equal to that of anti-Christ; for as that wicked one wished to be regarded as exalted above other men, like a god, so likewise whoever would call himself sole bishop exalteth himself above others”

Believe it or not, I miss Michael the Iconographer (wherever his new name is).

Has anyone heard from him or if he ever plans on returning here.

I can understand his hesitation with the ecumenism present. Shouldn't be happening.

Maybe I should join him elsewhere, or maybe we should have TAW ONLY threads like they do in the MJ forum to prevent problems.

I'm friends with him on Facebook (many of us are). It is unlikely that he'll be coming back here.

It appears my days here are numbered as well.

This priest is great.

Why I Love (True) Religion, Epilogue « Roads from Emmaus

If any of you are interested in the more detailed critiques I’ve written of Evangelical theology (rather than the fairly short responses I wrote to the video), I recommend the “Comparative Theology” category (be sure to click “Older Entries” for, well, older entries) on this weblog. You are also welcome to listen to the Orthodoxy and Heterodoxy podcast (I have a good many other podcasts, too). And of course I would be remiss if I didn’t also suggest my book of the same name.

And some of you out there are no doubt now wholly convinced I am a mercenary. I’ll be sure to invite you to my 8000 sq. ft. cabin on Martha’s Vineyard right after I get out of this rental house. (And why am I driving a Prius?!)

Saving this from the second page.

Also, Happy New Year (in Korea, anyway)!

Today, I saw something I had never seen before. The bishop serving without a priest. I thought that was kind of interesting. Almost finished with Orthodoxy and Heterodoxy. I should start listening to the podcasts. Some good info in there. Things I never knew and I wish he had been able to go into more and I wonder if he does on his podcasts.

I've had no power since Wednesday night :(

The ice storm was so bad that we closed the restaurant Wednesday and opened late Thursday. The snow came down all night Tuesday and all morning Wednesday, we had about eight inches at the house, and, that night it all froze. Thursday morning everything was covered with at least a quarter inch of ice (it took me almost forty-five minutes just to de-ice the car). Friday the rain took most of it away and so now it is mostly gone.
But I still don't have power at the house!

As for the damage...
We lost about seven alder trees (each at least fifty feet tall) that just broke in half and just as many more on the boundary between our yard and the neighbor's yard. The hundred foot tall ceders didn't break, but through a ridiculous amount of branches around. I'm just thankful that the house and the cars were spared (but the wooden fence on the driveway wasn't).

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is winter in the Pacific Northwest: where it doesn't snow; it ices!

WOW

EC that was some storm :( I'm glad you are safe even though you lost some trees and a fence

Thankfully and bashing quite hard on my wooden head , we have had a reasonable winter - we were expecting one like last year and as yet [ touching wood again ] it's not happened - we had nasty gales instead :(
