• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Raven, I'll tell you what God has chosen. God has CHOSEN to give you the freedom to choose whom or what you put your faith in. He will not withhold Christ from someone who wants Him! That is not why you were created, and that is completely the opposite of why Jesus was even sent!

So basically wanting to be saved is enough to be saved even if your not sure God's real?

The OCD makes the "some doubt" into huge doubts. Do you seriously think that all christian faith is perfect with every christian? All you have to do is look in the bible where Jesus cures this guys son and the man turns to Jesus and says "I believe Lord, help thou my unbelief".

The key is to trust in Jesus's nature and his personality not these obsessive thoughts .

This is why Jesus said come as you are, 100% faith or 50% faith Jesus loves u and wont ever let you go.

Just remember that even critical new testament scholars believe that the empty tomb was a historical fact, it follows that teh resurrection is the only thing that makes sense.

I have seen the patterns of OCD, and u and have Raven have teh classical patterns. I know as I went through and still go through what u guys are going through. One day you will both be able to recognize the ocd. God will neverever let you go even when u feel at times he might not be there

Faith is trusting despite doubt, not in lack of it. Just as there is no such thing as freedom without the ability to make a mistake, so there is no faith without room for doubt. The question is not, "do you or do you not doubt?" But it's "do you or do you not accept the doubts you have?" No one, not even the strongest Christian, KNOWS that God is real. No one has seen Him! We trust that He is real. It may be easier to feel confident in that truth for some people than others, but believing is not a feeling or a state of mental convincement. It is a decision. If you trust Christ as your savior, no matter your doubts about Him, you are SAVED.

Can I nominate this for post of the year? You basically said everything I was thinking and alot more.

Now this is a post inspired by the holy spirit:amen:

Thanks Anonymous and Catholic so that's what is meant by the faith the size of a mustard seed thing? Which means a little tiny bit of faith is enough to be saved? And asking Jesus to save you and depending on him to save you even though you have feelings of disbelief that you don't know if you believe or not is enough to save you because you're relying on God? I think im starting to wrap this together. For now at least.

How the heck do you trust in the face of doubt? I constantly think atheists are smarter.

Raven, no one is saying that Atheists arent smart, but there is a world of difference between just intellect and intellect, wisdom and common sense.

They are starting to do tests right now to try to determine the connection between atheism and autism because most atheists score high on the asperger syndrome test. The scientific method grew out of the Christian worldview and that is why scientific achievments exploded in the 16th and 17century in the west and why they stagnated during the same period in China. Joseph needham, an expert on all things chinese (sinologist) even said this and he was an atheist lol.

The wisdom of the soul is beyond the wisdom of the finite human brain.

Raven remember what I said about Mother Teresa? She had it worse then all of us put together and she went through it for 60 years and yet she obeyed andloved God in total darkness. God gave her a faith that still amazes us even today.

Worriedone now you got it:D
You are no longer a cradle Christian but Gods chosen warrior. YOur faith now is strnger then most people will ever have. You chose God of your own free will and no doubts, no ocd thoughts and no Satan can tell you otherwise. From now on you can never feel just lukewarm about God anymore. You want him, you need him and every part of you yearns for Gods love.
This is why my friends who went through it say that faith is an act of the will. When I was at my worse, one of my friends told me that when I was at my worst I was actually at my strongest. I Thoughts he was nuts for saying this at the time but im starting to understand what he meant now by it:)

You both are very special to Jesus so excuse me if I get a bit selfish and ask you guys to put me in your prayers:D

Im greedy so sue me:)

What if you doubt he exists and continue to feel unsaved and fear 2012 that means your unsaved?

Raven, Having doubt is when you truely grow gigantically in faith. Without Doubt how can your faith grow? IN sunday mass the priest always says "the mystery of Faith". I never could understand what he meant by faith being a mystery and now im starting to.:)

Raven, I'd like to help, or at least understand your situation better. I have some questions in that vein:

Were you diagnosed with OCD?

How long have you been going to therapy?

What suggestions has your therapist given you?

Are you taking medication?

Has your fear changed in intensity recently?

Is there anything else about how your fears feel?

I have OCD. Haven't been diagnosed with it for this particular fear. I see a therapist next Tues. for this theme. I am on Zoloft and Xanax. My fears are just so scarier because this eternity we are talking about. I can't believe in God although I want to. I just doubt him so much. I used to believe one hundred percent people use to ask me how do you know God exists and I would say I just do. Now I ask that.

Be cautious about Xanax Raven. How long have you been on it. It made my symptoms much worse, higher levels of anxiety and "fear"?/? I had to get off of it. I was also on Zoloft, last year and have since switched medicine 3 times since. Maybe your medicine needs to be tweaked just a bit?

Everyone says that. What does medicine have to do with doubting God exists it can't fix that it is not proven or logical OCD can make you doubt God exists. As far as fear goes that should be considered normal. Doubting God exists is not good and since it isn't caused by OCD it is really not for sure I can be forgiven.

Bunyan had that same theme with his OCD - that he wasn't chosen.
So it's not a unique experience.

What did mother Theresa go through? My biggest fear is I wasn't choosen. I used to have perfect faith.

That's awesome news!! I'll be praying for you. I know this is taking a tremendous amount of courage. I'm so proud of you for taking that leap.

Ok so everyone has doubt God exists but some people can stifle it? I had perfect faith though. One interesting thing is my husband says he fears no heaven but only when he faces death and never doubts God exists. Why do I feel the urge to look uP atheists theories.
