• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

The brain has 1.7 positive thoughts to 1 negative thought. Hence the brain works in a dialetical fashion. This means that we will ALWAYS have negative thoughts. It is part of a normal brain. People with OCD tend to focus on the negative thoughts as a sign that there is somethign wrong with them. There is somethign wrong with all of us. For all have sinned and falll short of the glory of God.
Accept that you will have negative thoughts, rather than questioning them. and perhaps they will become more irrelevant.
But most of all find an expert in CBT. especially as it applies to OCD.

Yes I'm on meds and seeing a therapist if you would go back a few pages there was a woman named KerrySue who said wanting to believe in Jesus shows I'm saved then I started thinking things saying I didn't want to be saved is this normal? And thank you you make me sort of see my faith when I couldn't.

Your welcome my friend. This post right here is classic OCD. Believe me, this is exactly the same thing I do all the time, and while I cant see it while its happening to me, others can see it as plain as day. Not only are you saved my friend but you are one of Christs special warriors:)
I am so sure Jesus is very proud of you right now:thumbsup:

worried one, your hearts desires are as plain as day here to us. You want God more then you probably wanted anything in your life. This is probably what Kerrysue meant. True faith is an act of the will, of which you have plenty of.:)

Jesus is probably holding you as we speak, and im very sure he is so proud of you.

I would hold my hand out and have a lion tear it to shreds if it meant not doubting God exists, not thinking it makes sense we just die and there is nothing, not worrying about 2012 etc. How do I know God doesn't choose who he gives saving faith to, who he gives the ability to not fear 2012 by trusting him etc. How do I know he is not wrathful. How do I know he is not just and I deserve he'll. How do I know anything.

See another thing that confuses me are there are people who don't believe in God so they go to hell. So I feel like I'm going to hell because me doubting God and having feelings of disbelief in him.How am I saved them if I have feelings of disbelief in God like an unbeliever?

I'm not sure if you're on meds from the ocd but I suggest inositol which is a b-vitamin supplement. It will calm all the intrusive thoughts, so that you can first, relax. It has no side effects. Research it. If you decide to take it, once it calms you, read the word, pray and ask Jesus to reveal Himself to you. He will.

I want to believe too but can't seem to that is why I am so scared I wasn't choosen to be saved and I don't think OCD causes doubt God exists and there is no test to take to prove it is OCD. So I sooo understand where you are. What made your doubt start?

Worried one, your salvation isnt dependent on our fickle feelings which can vary from day to day, and that goes a million fold with people like us that have extreme OCD. Faith is an act of the will, and it is clear that you will wants God so bad to the point that your ocd is using your will against you. REgardless of these thoughts you are in our lords grasp. Do you really believe that God is going to hold this against you? No way
He loves all of his sheep, especially the ones who latch onto him during the worst of storms. Your faith is growing not getting smaller

Raven, my pms keep bouncing back to me. Its one of those days lol.

Raven, I also know what its like, and this is exactly why OCD is so tricky and devious. IT finds what matters most to you and will pound you 24/7 on it, and the person feeling the OCD cant tell if its the ocd or them really doubting. The key I saw in you was when you told me that you gave yourself some reassurance, you then felt better a bit, but then the thoughts kept attacking you again. OCD is like a drug addiction, only much worse.

Martin Luther had it even worse

God understands our fickle ways, he also understands that the flesh is imperfect, but if there is one thing we should know is that his love is infinite and his mercy so great. I know one day all 3 of us will be standing in front of the Glorious Lord in his kingdom :).
Ocd and even doubt cant take that away from us.
You are both in my daily prayers

First of all worriedone, there is a world of difference between you and an atheist. Ocd will not give you the freedom to even make the choice of believing even if the evidence was 99% in your favor, and you are are feeling well it will morph over into another area.

Ill give you an example. I picked 2 areas that I knew would be super strong in my favor. One was the historicity of the empty tomb. The historic fact of the empty tomb isnt even disputed by most atheist new testament scholars let alone christian new testament scholars. Its very solid. I was set for a few hours feeling great. Then the what ifs started. What if the apostles had a deal with pontius pilot? What if pilote secretly felt sorry for Jesus and worked a deal with him? What if the apostles willingly died for what they knew was a lie because they went crazy or had a mental disorder.

Do you see where this is going? The trick of the ocd is that it will focus on that 1% and make it flair untilit feels like its 99% . Assurance will help a bit but it wont do the trick for long.

The knowledge I have accumulated in appologetics in the last 3 years is super solid but the ocd refused to let my mind rest, and it will keep eating away at the fear until it totally saps us of our energy. No doubt its a disorder and no doubt Satan loves to also see us suffer, but this is why I say that Jesus can see all of this and has compassion for us even when we dont see whats happening.

There is no atheist thats gets worked up so much over this, no one at all. In fact they get pleasure in trying to draw us away from God.

In fact atheists will do whatever it takes to deny God and are happy with that.
Even though most scientists are now favoring authenticity for the shroud of turin atehists are still bringing up old , debunked arguments againts it even though they know the evidence for the shroud is very compelling enough to the point where agnostics like mark antonacci converted to christianity just by studying it for over 20 years.

The difference between us and them worried is that because of our ocd, nothing else but 100% surety will do, and nothing else will satisfy our minds.

I wish I could believe that but first you would have to prove your doubt God exists is Ocd which is impossible if it is true OCD can cause that type of doubt. Although regular non OCD doubt is not wanted just like Ocd doubt. I find it impossible to know if I am saved. The bible says we must believe

Faith is trusting despite doubt, not in lack of it. Just as there is no such thing as freedom without the ability to make a mistake, so there is no faith without room for doubt. The question is not, "do you or do you not doubt?" But it's "do you or do you not accept the doubts you have?" No one, not even the strongest Christian, KNOWS that God is real. No one has seen Him! We trust that He is real. It may be easier to feel confident in that truth for some people than others, but believing is not a feeling or a state of mental convincement. It is a decision. If you trust Christ as your savior, no matter your doubts about Him, you are SAVED.
