• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

One thing I have found to help reduce stress and anxiety is yoga. I've taken a couple classes and found that it really helps me relax. You have to be careful, because some instructors can introduce a lot of eastern or new age philosophy into the class, but mine was pretty good. The basics of stretching, focusing on your breathing, and becoming more self-aware can be very helpful. I'm thinking of maybe getting a video and following it when I feel overwhelmed or stressed.

Have any of you tried yoga, and did you find it helpful?

Yoga is safe and highly effective, especially from a medical and therapeutic point of view. One consideration though, is IF you suffer from certain chronic conditions like chronic pain syndrome, talk it over with your doctor before going all out. But for basic relaxation, yoga is great and effetive AND safe.
I am finally, after years of contemplation, getting into something called Kriya Yoga, which is a powerful form of yoga and not for everyone. It is very highly spiritual (peace) based, and the only prerequisite is love, love for God, mankind, self etcOne teacher suggested that "love should be the most important thing in life, because All Love comes from God"
I have met many practitioners of Kriya Yoga and it certainly seems like a great vehicle for spiritual growth. I will let you know for certain later on.
