I think the best solution would be to eliminate Boy and Girl Scouts altogether and simply have the Scouts. We all live together regardless of gender so wouldn't it be beneficial to teach kids gender cooperation as early as possible?

Why can't boys embrace their manhood through an organization and likewise, girls embrace their womanhood through an organization? The Boy Scouts of America does a good job with this.

I just now saw this is in the Catholic forum so hopefully I can answer your question without it being deemed debating.

There is too much emphasis on the social constructions of gender which impede the growth of children and stump the progress of adults. Having simply the Scouts would place emphasis on values such as integrity and honestly without the superfluous tags of boy or girl. When it comes to honoring basic social principles, does gender really matter? I believe not.

I don't think the Boy scouts should be eliminated. The girl scouts seem to be moving in this direction, so perhaps they can drop the 'girl' and welcome boys and girls in. For those who see things as you do, that gender indentity doesn't matter, there would be something for those, and then The Boy Scouts and the American Heritage Girls could be options for folks who feel it's important to nurture gender roles.

Apparently not long, they accepted the boy in.

Good grief.

they are doing it because they are afraid and don't want to look "bigoted", they also rely on a large number of private lenders for money and are probably worried they funds would greatly lessen if they were blacklisted by leftists.

I think most of us post at times not knowing where we are.

The Catholic Church believes our sexuality is part of who we are. That there is nothing wrong with knowing how we are the same but we also should know how we, as men and women, are different. That God made both man and woman and each, though created in His image, are unique to their gender as well. So, having times where we can foster our uniqueness as a man or woman, is a good thing. Then again, it is good to foster times that we are the same as well.

The boy scouts is a time where boys can be with other boys and foster their male side of things. In my experiences this has always been something for boys and not girls and no one has ever had a problem with it. It is also one of the few groups where they say the pledge of allegiance and are proud to include "God" in it. It also helps boys learn to be good Christian boys, which is different than girls in many ways.

Considering that the Girl Scouts support Planned Parenthood and now this, if I ever have any kids, they will not be allowed become Girl Scouts unless the Girl Scouts make some drastic changes in their policies.
