But he wasn't part of the settlement. It sounds as though the suit was brought against him as a representative of the company rather than him personally (it is not illegal for a person to sexually harass someone in the same way as it is illegal for a company or a company's representative to do so). Since he was a high-ranking officer, the lawyers may have deliberately shielded him from having knowledge. Plus, as he was no longer with the company at settlement time, he wouldn't have access to the legal documents which were sealed with the participants barred from public disclosure.

To me, it's more than plausible that he wasn't aware of the details of the settlement, less plausible that he was unaware that there was a settlement involving payout to the woman and not in the least bit plausible that he was unaware of the existence of the suit against the company.
There was no suit

That's one - but what about the other two? Not to mention the emergent fourth?

If they all stay anonymous, then Cain wins.
Ummh ... one of the tenets of law ... despite protestations from the left-leaning media ...
Right to face one's accusers.
The only reason I can think of for not going public with a legitimate complaint is that the complaint is unjustified or petty.

Complaints so far appear, at worst, to be petty or simply flirtatious. There's even a story from the Washington Post now about Cain's double-breasted suits.
It’s a suit of authority and control — but with his sex scandal allegations, Cain no longer has control of his own narrative. Herman Cain’s suits: Double-breasted, double meaning - Arts Post - The Washington Post
It seems the press thinks they have control of Cain's narrative now? Interesting ...

Thank you, DaisyDay, I had not heard the rest of the story, though I had wondered.

If cain wasn't part of the settlement he could not possibly make any decision on waiving confidentiality.

What? What do you think I - from the left - just said? Yeah, another gratuitous smear from you.

The only reason I can think of for not going public with a legitimate complaint is that the complaint is unjustified or petty.
Hardly. Anyone going public is likely to have her private life splatted all over the news and talk shows and very likely receive death threats from the nuts. It is much harder for a self-respecting woman to go public than for a publicity seeking fake.

Complaints so far appear, at worst, to be petty or simply flirtatious.
I don't know how you can say that, not knowing what the complaints are. Well, we know one - the fourth woman who said she was groped - is that your idea of flirting?

They've done it before - do you remember how they went on and on and on about Gore wearing a brown suit (of all things) and boots? And how Kerry looked "French"? I think this will be less likely to happen with Cain because of the hyper-vigilance of his supporters. From what I've seen, liberals are tend to sit back and laugh along when one of their own is toyed with by the jackal press.

You're welcome, DaisyDay. No charge. [NHE is puzzled though ... and doesn't see any smear ... NHE was referring to media]

I'm sure that's true, DaisyDay. Women who have been raped are reluctant to become public figures. No doubt, political significance elevates things to another level entirely.

It's hard not to feel sympathy for the likes of Jennifer Flowers, Juanita Broaddrick and others. To be honest, I haven't felt the same sympathy for Monica Lewinsky though ... not sure why.

I don't know how you can say that, not knowing what the complaints are. Well, we know one - the fourth woman who said she was groped - is that your idea of flirting?

So ... then, does it surprise you that the "right" is laughing at the press in the middle of all this.

Imperfect men run for political office. What we know about Herman Cain already is far more than we knew about many others who have run for political office. In that light Herman Cain looks to be a quite decent guy.

Perhaps that's why the latest poll out of Iowa today still ranks him on top, even if he's slipped a little: Cain, Gingrich lead Romney in new Iowa poll - The Hill's Blog Briefing Room
Herman Cain: 22%
Newt Gingrich: 18%
Mitt Romney: 15%

But there were some encouraging signs for Cain. Seventeen percent of women chose Cain despite the allegations, more than any candidate other than Romney.
