Businessman Herman Cain is now atop the field of Republican White House hopefuls, squeaking past former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the latest CBS News/New York Times poll.
Cain garnered 25 percent support of Republican primary voters in the poll released on Tuesday, compared to Romney's 21 percent.

Herman Cain - 25%
Mitt Romney - 21%
Newt Gingrich - 10%
Ron Paul - 8%
Rick Perry - 6%
Michele Bachmann - 2%
Rick Santorum - 1%
It just keeps getting curiouser and curiouser ...

Should be fun to see what happens with Rick Perry's new tax plan.

Here today, gone tomorrow. Remember, Michelle Bachmann was the BEST THING EVER a few months back. Then it was Rick Perry. Now it is Cain. People will lose interest in him soon enough.

And before that Donald Trump!! :D

I was reading some political analyzing firm (can't remember where or who) but are saying that romney has a 70% likelihood of winning the nomination. They take into account polling data, fundraising, staff, boots on the ground in primary states, etc.

Cain pretty much has no infrastructure to really tap into his polling popularity right now.

Though I'd love love love for Cain to get the nomination. Cain as GOP nominee = 4 more years of Obama.

Since I stopped watching TV, I have no idea what campaign ads are being aired right now:

The test will occur when attack ads start being run against him, either by his Republican competitors or Obama. If he can sustain the poll numbers even when those start being ran against him, it's impressive.
He withstood the first onslaught in last Tuesday's debate. Very first thing in the debate was attack of his 9-9-9 plan from all sides. He's still standing. The CBS poll was conducted post-debate.

MSNBC's been blasting him for a while now ... of course, who watches MSNBC, LOL. The mainstream media's even been promoting everyone else besides Herman ... with an occasional racial slam against Herman ... or an occasional anti-Muslim slam against Herman. Hmm ...

Stay tuned ...

Nobody watches the debates and Republicans don't watch MSNBC so those are irreverent in the calculus. As for the rest of the mainstream media not giving him as much coverage, that could just as easily help him as hurt him. Sarah Palin and Ron Paul for instance are great when not on camera, when they're not on their own turf however, they don't fare so well.

I haven't seen these before, again, don't watch TV, but Obama proved that these attacks don't work. People who wont vote for him to begin with will believe it, those who are willing to vote for him, ignore it.

Nobody watching debates?

New York Times says ... Republican Debates Are a Hot Ticket on TV http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/17/b...es-are-a-hot-ticket-on-tv.html?pagewanted=all
In September 2007, Fox News put Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul, Rudy Giuliani and a man who was, back then, a long shot for the Republican presidential nomination, John McCain, on a debate stage in New Hampshire. The face-off attracted 3.2 million viewers — the most of any debate so far that year.

This September, Fox’s debate — in Florida, with Mr. Romney, Mr. Paul and new names like Herman Cain and Michele Bachmann — attracted almost twice as many viewers: 6.1 million, the highest so far this year. The very first televised Republican debate this spring attracted almost 3.3 million viewers, while the first debate in the spring of 2007 had 1.8 million.

What explains the fact that debates this year are garnering almost twice as many viewers as any of the early debates, Democratic or Republican, did four years ago? Cable news executives don’t know for sure, but they have theories. Chief among them is that widespread anxiety about the economy and disapproval of the political system is building viewership.

“The ‘pox on all of their houses’ sentiment of the summer debt limit debate is clearly affecting voters,” said Mark Lukasiewicz, the senior vice president for NBC News specials. “It’s driven them to be a lot more interested and more engaged in the process early on.”

“The issues have never quite hit home to this degree,” said Michael Clemente, senior vice president for news editorial at Fox News.

Other theories involve livelier contenders, showier production values for the debates and an increase in online chatter about them — some of the same traits that make reality TV shows successful.

The record-high ratings do not benefit the cable news networks directly through advertising sales, because there are few ads during debates. But the debates do benefit the networks indirectly, by attracting election-season sponsorships and by lending prestige to their brands. “It’s a great tent pole,” Mr. Clemente said. “You get to showcase your best people.”

So that's 2% of the population. Congratulations.

Now, that's unfair, there were 130 million votes during the last presidential election and the overwhelming majority of people willing to sit though one of those debates is a voter, that makes it almost 5%. Yay...
Using your math, that's about 10% of Republican voters ... cuz Dems wouldn't be watching, right?

What's more important is that's 10% of Republicans who have gotten their information directly from the source rather than filtered through the media. That's cool!

And, there are plenty of folks who get information second hand from those who are watching and paying attention. That's networking for ya. ;)
