I checked the book reviews on Amazon. The reviewers gave the book only 2-stars ...
Oh well, QED! I guess.
I can certainly see how folks at the New york Times would identify with having been crushed by Reagan. They were left out in the cold ... just as Ronald Reagan did to Communism. Perhaps they expected better?
Ummm, do you know how "Reagan" won the Cold War?
He happened to be the president who sat at the end of America's economic expansion and who was willing to put even more debt on us in order to spend the Russians into the ground.
Reagan indeed was willing to massively expand military spending and there was no way the USSR could keep up. They were already on the ropes (after Afghanistan, interesting parallel, dontcha think?) and Reagan was the icing on 50 years of American economic power.
I don't disagree that Reagan crushed the USSR by leveraging the combined work of millions of Americans over the previous 50 years and he was willing to massively increase spending (wow, that sounds so....
conservative!) until the USSR collapsed.
But did we really "win"? Is Russia today a place most of us would want to live? Is it really a shining beacon of democracy?
Did we crush and decimate the USSR only to watch a limping deformed monstrosity of corruption re-establish itself within 20 years under Putin, former KGB?
Hmmmm. Yes Reagan's legacy is lasting:
1. Deregulation mania (which helped lead us to more economic crises in the past 20 years than we had in the previous 40).
2. The fall of the USSR only to be replaced by Putin's Oligarchy
3. A steady decrease in the top marginal tax rate (now even lower than Reagan oversaw!)
4. An almost non-stop DISPROOF of "trickle down economics" for 30 years!
The comparisons with prophecy are inescapable.
Luke 13:27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.
28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
Reagan's looking pretty genuine to me
workers of iniquity? Were those who disagreed with Reagan workers of iniquity?
How about the president who
oversaw one of the largest expansions of the military in modern history. Do you think he ever read this:
Mt.26:52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
... though I welcome additional evidence to the contrary.
Well, as per usual, you asked for my supporting documentation and I gave it to you and I can't help it if you disagree with it. I don't necessarily know that you or I are more correct on this matter. Just reporting what I read.
