I learned I was pregnant with my second child in June this year. A couple months ago, before I had even thought of a name, I had prayed to God. I asked him to name my child or give me a name fitting for my new baby! That night I had a dream and I can't remember anything other than knowing I heard the name JACOB only once. I didn't know the gender of the baby until a few days ago. It's a boy! I'm curious to get opinions on whether or not I'm thinking into it too much or should I take it as a sign from God. I guess Jacob is fitting somewhat being the second born and taking the rights of the first born ( my first being a girl), but if it was just my head making it up, I would probably want to go with a different name. If it was God, I would really like to obey his wishes. Anyone have opinions on this?

You know, I wouldnt be surprised at all! My husband received our daugther's name in a dream, even prior to having her gender confirmed via ultrasound.

In his dream, he was playing with our baby girl and a voice said "her name is [privacy's sake, name not mentioned]", so that's what we named her. It wasn't your usual name at all! But it made perfect sense.

You are thinking of Jacob's birth, but he was remembered for so many other years' worth of life. Also, people translate his name as "supplanter," but this is also written about the word:
"(d) "to follow," "to succeed," "to take the place of another" (so Arabic, and the Hebrew noun 'eqebh, "consequence," "recompense," whether of reward or punishment). "

(c) "to follow with good intent," whether as a slave (compare our English "to heel," of a dog) for service, or as a guard for protection, hence, "to guard" (so in Ethiopic), "to keep guard over", and thus "to restrain" (so Job 37:4); Jacob (1) - International Standard Bible Encyclopedia -- a page worth reading if you're thinking about using the name, or a derivative of it.

Isaiah 10:21 A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God. If you don't necessarily like the name, consider there might be something God is saying through the word -- reassurance of some sort.

- The elder shall serve the younger" (Romans 9:11,12).

- The life of a wanderer (Deuteronomy 26:

- The father of the twelve -- a patriarch

- Not too hairy. (-; Genesis 27:11
