I never did get an answer about who specifically has actually asked that their name not be written in the book of life, but msmorality did say that Moses' asked that his name be removed from the book of life, .... so now I have a new question: Does that mean God put Moses in Hell?

Of course not, and this is not what Moses was asking.
The ' Book of life ' is a reference to those who God has ordained for serving Him and others, before they were born. Such as Moses.
This ' book ' is not a list of who is saved. But, this is what most people mistake this ' book' for.
If this was a book about who is saved, then Moses was asking God to put him in hell for all eternity to be in great agony.

And on that note, I don't think he would allow fallible people , who as Christ described as sheep always going astray.... the ability to make a careless choice, such as damnation for all eternity.

No, I do not believe so... In context though Moses did not just "ask" to have his name removed.. simply. There is a bit more to the events, from my point of view.

Would you like to elaborate? I am gaim for some new understandings of the Old Testament... I actually never did understand why Moses did not get to see the promised land. Hitting a rock too many times seems a bit harsh to me. I know there is more to all that stuff, I just don't really get it.

From what I can remember the rock was symbolic of Christ and here we have Moses hitting out at Christ in anger. That's my understanding of it now anyway.
A lot of us hit out at Christ in anger but Moses was considered a more severe case because of his great responsibility. Not that that means to me he will be damned forever, but that he will go through a time of cleansing and healing too. Even though I don't believe in eternal torment I do believe that we reap what we sow and we must go through corrective punishment for our sins done in the flesh, and, our God being no respecter of persons still flogs his own sons, if we truly are sons.

I am not familiar with this view. Thank you for the information.
I am aware that the ' tree of life' as also being symbolic of Christ. As well as The Rock, Living water, and many other's I am sure.

That is interesting.. do you know if Moses knew he was hitting Christ, or if he thought he was only hitting a rock? I have heard it was because he hit the rock more times than God told him to..
