So, what is it? And, more importantly, why?

If you know your super hero movies (like I do) you'll groan at my favorite. But it is what it is. And that's Daredevil. And I think it's my fave because it was the first real superhero movie I saw, besides the awful 90's batman ones.

Spawn or Xmen :3 I loved mystique and gambit

I'll give you Spawn. But X-3? my least fave of the x-men movies. And Gambit isn't in X-3 (mystique is, though), he's in X-Men origins wolverine, one that I enjoyed but again, many comic fans did not.

Ah, sorry, my bad! X-men 1 and 2 are amazing. For 3 they changed the director and went a different direction. The new x-men first class was awesome.

I grew up collecting comics, I still have a whole storage container full, some are worth a few hundred each. And because I respect the comics I def was appalled by the sipderman movies. Although the new one coming out next year has me very excited.

Kick-Ass. It's got humour, violence... great movie.
Ah, I really did enjoy kick-ass. You should check out "Super". I'd call it an independent, grittier version of kick-ass. It's definitely not for kids. And it stars Rainn Wilson who plays Dwight in the office!

It has to be The Dark Knight. I've always been a Batman fan, and I was looking forward to this movie so much, but it exceeded my highest expectations.

Reasons it is awesome:

1. More than any other Batman film, it addresses why there must be a Batman. It shows why pretenders can't do what Batman does. It deals with the limits of the Law and the compromises that people make when they want to feel safe, and shows a man who is willing and able to defy both of them in order to do what is necessary to defeat true evil.

2. It is a brilliant, layered film. It transcends the superhero genre. You could list it among great crime dramas and I don't think it would feel out of place. And there is so much to the intelligent script. (I love how the Joker completely changes his plans after he comes face to face with Batman.) Someone in the media (forget who) called it the most important post 9/11 film to have come out. That's probably a loaded label, and debatable, but it does describe how the film tries to tackle huge questions of personal liberty vs. security in a world where terrorism can touch anyone, and it deals with collectivism vs. individualism (Watchmen does this also). Is Batman a hero in the end because he defeats the Joker or is he a bad guy because he tramples the civil liberties of the entire city to find him?

3. It brings Batman into the real world. Gotham just looks like Chicago. The Joker is just a really smart, cruel man in face paint. I'm a big fan of the dark, stylized world of some of the other movies (Rocket penguins? I'm there!), including Batman Begins, but a real world with real danger worked here. A madman with a bomb is scarier than a device that magically evaporates all the water in the area (except what's in the human body). And a truly frightening scenario makes for a more heroic victory.

4. The Joker. I love Jack Nicholson's Joker, and I had serious reservations about Heath Ledger and the realistic, scarred Joker of the Nolanverse. Until I saw the first trailer. And then the film. Wow. You don't even see Heath Ledger in there. His best performance ever, and a great take on a classic bad guy.

5. Three great dramatic face-offs. My favorite scenes in the film are: Batman vs. The Joker in the interrogation, The Joker trying to convert Harvey Dent to his worldview in the hospital (love the nurse outfit), and Batman, Gordon, and Two-Face facing off at the end of the film (Explosives and high tech car chases are set aside for a chilling dramatic climax: just three guys, a gun, and an innocent child...).

There's more, but that's the heart of it. It's just great to watch a movie with your favorite superhero, written by people who get the character and want to give you more than just a Summer popcorn flick. (And David S. Goyer has written the upcoming Superman film, so I live in hope for my second favorite superhero...)

Runners up:

Superman: The Movie (When you're a kid, this film is great. Makes you want to tie a towel around your neck and jump off furniture.)

Kick-Ass (Hit Girl is the coolest action heroine since The Bride in Kill Bill, and the movie itself is intense, violent fun.)

Blade (Frost is a great villain. Also written by David S. Goyer.)

The Avengers (I can't believe this movie is that good. Surpasses all my hopes for it. Perfect example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.)

I have to say I enjoyed Kick ass. I also enjoyed some more unusual super hero movies like Watchmen (more anti superhero) and Mystery Men "I'm the blue rajah not Knifey boy!" Batman begins and The Dark Knight...goes without saying. Superman and the Iron Man films.

I really enjoyed X-Men: First Class and I LOVED The Dark Knight. I liked X-Men Origins: Wolverine, too...but that may have had more to do with Hugh Jackman and less to do with the actual movie :p I hated Gambit in it though...they could have at least given him the right accent because whatever he was trying to do wasn't it!

Daredevil? Really? :p

I know.... most super hero enthusiasts give me weird looks when I say Daredevil. But it came out just after spider-man, which I despised.... So it was the first super hero movie that I enjoyed.

Tim Burton's Batman, absolutamente! I watched it after seeing the Nostalgia Critic's Old vs. New and surprisingly still have it and look forward to watching it again and again. Michael Keaton's performance is top notch and the direction is, naturally, incredible.

The Dark Knight was also amazing, primarily thanks to Heath Ledger as the Joker and the highly inspiring moments, such as the actions of the people in the boats (without spoiling anything, they prove the Joker wonderfully wrong). I'm VERY much looking forward to The Dark Knight Rises, the next movie in that series (from Batman Beings onward). Can't wait, looks amazing!

I'll be back to comment on my favorite later, but I just gotta say....Spiderman 3 is truly awful, and I hate X-Men Origins; Wolverine for how much it changed and destroyed the character of Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds character).

Second time we've agreed :3 I love mystery men. I haven't seen that in sooooo long the villain was just perfect :p I loved the bowler. That was her name right?

*cracks knuckles*

X-Men 2; great execution of character development (well, for some characters) and action. It was very The Empire Strikes Back in structure, which is ALWAYS a good thing.

The Punisher (2004); yes, it was hokey at times, and downright disney with the tenants in the building with him, but Thomas Jane embodied that character to a T. And while it wasn't the most faithful of adaptations, it really did capture the spirit and essence from the run it was based on (Garth Ennis' "Welcome Back Frank").

Batman Begins & The Dark Knight; Both are fantastic films that expose the caped crusader in such an excellent, nearly flawless way. However, in my personal opinion, Batman Begins is a film that's greatness got lost in the wake of it's sequel (a rarity of an event), and it truly is in The Dark Knights league.

Batman Mask of the Phantasm/Batman Beyond Return of the Joker/Batman Under The Red Hood; the best representations of Batman/the darkness that Batman's life brings/the relationship between Batman and The Joker on film. Period. And that's not taking anything away from Begins or The Dark Knight. But these three came from Bruce Timm; the dude who produced and shaped the entire DC cartoon lineup from the 90s onward, starting with Batman: The Animated Series; this man and his team know there stuff.

Planet Hulk; not much to say, it's just incredibly well done. Great story, great action, watch it. And, look for Beta Ray Bill.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie (1990); This is a comic movie that deserves so much more recognition than it gets. It grabs the dark edge the comics had (seriously; while I've not read a whole issues, I've seen some panels. The comics had peeps heads getting cut off, the Turtles were legit ninja's, it was crazy) while incorporating and paying several things/homages to the '87 cartoon show that was the reason for the turtle's world-wide fame. The darker edge was a great way to go, as it gives adult viewers a more enjoyable watch outside of the nostalgia factor. Definitely the best of all the turtle flicks, and honestly a great comic book movie. I'd truly put in a top-ten comic movie list.

Worst comic movie mentions; Batman and Robin, Spiderman 1-3, Fantastic Four, Ang-Lee's Hulk (2003), and Spiderman 3 again. Seriously. It anger's me more than Batman and Robin. It's that bad. At least Batman and Robin we got an apology for.
