For those that are vegetarian, how do you obtain your requirement of B12 and other essential enzymes that are exclusive to animal products?

Sister white advocated milk and eggs, so I can see where B12 comes from in her health message, but the one being taught by the church today does not include milk or eggs.... thoughts??

Ha...you don't need milk, eggs and beef to obtain B12 or the vegetarian diet would fail, right?

We produce B12 naturally, under our tongue over night. It's produced from bacteria. Just eat your breakfast before brushing your teeth or drink 1 glass of water before brushing.

I've never heard that before. Everything I've read states we do not produce B12 naturally and all veggies I know take supplements or eat fortified foods.

Do you have any evidence of this? Not trying to doubt, I'd just like to see for myself that this is biologically possible.

Here's an interesting post I found over on the Vegan Forum...

"Adventist health scientist Matt Steele wondered about this for a long time. Vitamin B12 is almost the universal product of bacterial action. So it dawned on him that it might have come from natural drinking water -- which would have had many bacteria in its catchment area. He tested the water in the Yarra River near Warburton Adventist Hospital in Australia. The river water there is good drinking quality. When he tested it, he found one litre (two pints) of the water contained the Recommended Daily Allowance of Vitamin B12."
http://www.tagnet.org/adventist.fm/health/heallup.htm

"Vitamin B-12 is synthesized by single-celled microbes (bacteria) that live in the soils of the earth. And long ago when the earth and soils were healthy, before we put all sorts of chemicals on them, the surface of the earth was covered with vitamin B-12. There used to be lots of vitamin B-12 in our lives. Even if you were a pure vegetarian 300 years ago, you could open up the back door of your cottage and outside would be a beautiful organic garden. Every carrot you pulled out of the ground would have little particles of vitamin B-12 sticking to it. When it came time to get your water, you'd take a bucket of water out of the stream, and there too you would find vitamin B-12. There would be B-12 under your finger nails from working in the garden. There would be plenty of B-12 in your life, and since you needed so little of it, concerns about deficiency would not be an issue.

"We've become very isolated from the earth and we've lost our natural sources of B-12. Cows have B-12 in their muscles because they're eating grass all day and their pulling up clumps of dirt that have B-12 producing organisms clinging to the root of the grass. They eat the B-12 producing organisms who produce the B-12, which gets absorbed into their bloodstream, goes out into the muscles, and is deposited into their muscles and livers. But that is bacterial B-12 in the cow's muscle. The cow did not make it, nor did the pig or chicken. "

The same reason cows produce B12, not because it's cows, but because of bacteria. Humans produce B12 naturally over night in saliva deposited under the tongue. Don't you think God thought of that when He devised the original diet? Science is always playing catching up to God. :D

BTW, I wouldn't say EGW advocated eggs and milk. She permitted the use in the case of physical needs/illness.

I totally beleive that God provided for our every need... when things were as He designed them to be. I still have not read anything that shows me that we produce it under our tongues. When there was an abundance of B12 producing bacteria in the soil, water and atmoshere, then I would say our needs were met. Doubtful that is the case today. We also need cobalt to synthesis B12 and I'm sure we aren't getting enough of it either. We don't seem to suffer the effects of B12 deficiency because of the fortification of our foods. I'm sure though, we are somewhat deficient by the evidence of the lethargy and depression in the population.

I'll bring up the quotes later if you'd like but Sister White suggested producing eggs to sell to the institutions (schools, sanitariums etc) for an economy. She also used to give her own grandchildren freshly pasterized milk.

I am a member of the SDA church, but I wonder why people have to quote E.G. White. She is not Jesus. I think the church is allowing her to become an idol. As one Catholic told another SDA, I have the Virgin Mary and you have E.G. White.

The gospel and Christianity is about Jesus. He is the founder of Christianity. If the church is not careful she is going to be an idol. God does not take lightly to idolatry, he says he will NEVER share his glory with another. The bible says we are to fix our eyes on Jesus. Sister White says this, Sister White says that...The question that needs to be asked is ..WHAT DOES JESUS SAY.

I'm sorry you feel this way. But I do not apologize for quoting from Ellen White's writings. Because the spirit of prophecy is not Ellen White, it is the testimony of Jesus.

This is what the Lord has revealed to His remnant group and it's not about to change to some people's liking. If it's a jail for you, you need to find some place so you can feel free.

Contented, there is a tendancy overuse or even abuse of EGW's writings, which is unforutnate because I believe she does serve a purpose. You are right, our focus is supposed to be fully on Jesus, but you know God can use things, books, people who can help us refocus in the right direction when you lose that focus. I believe EGW writings, used in their correct context, do exactly that.

There is an old song that says,

"Turn your eyes upon Jesus.
Look full in His wonderful face;
and the thing of earth will grow strangely dim,
in the light of His glory and grace".

Keep that in mind and you will never go wrong.
