There's been a lot of excitement brewing in the Canadian office of the worldwide creationist organization, Creation Ministries International, as their biggest event ever is about to occur. This is planned to be held at Canada's biggest Christian retreat center, located in Muskoka, Ontario (Close to me, so I'm pretty excited about it too.) and taking place over this coming week (August 14-19, 2011). There are 11 speakers that will be presenting the creation message, Lord willing. These come from a variety of scientific disciplines, but all can be considered world class, or at least consistent reps of biblical creationism. Now the latest news is that they are planning to broadcast this event LIVE over the Internet.

I'm a fond supporter of this ministry, so I thought I'd pass this note and link on to all of you who are interested in this intense issue. There are many people who have booked camp sites and cabins and will be camping right at the retreat center for the week. But for people like me, who could hardly afford the cost and the time, this online broadcasting thing will be great! And maybe it (and the DVDs that will be forthcoming) will even be ignition for deep-thinking and worthwhile discussions on this forum! AND this is your chance to submit those really hard questions to the best of creationists and watch them answer, all online!

Research conferences are much more fun. We get posters with scientific data.

Not really. Too much data seen in a research conferences and nobody really care about them. Can you imagine all those junk data get pumped out every year? My under students can even fill a 4x8 poster with data and analyses.

I would say the creation conference is more exciting. They may not have enough data, but they certainly give a lot of good ideas. Too bad that I am too far away from this one.

If you have high speed internet, you shouldn't be too far away.

For your information, many of these scientists/speakers have been involved in research in years past and it is now that they are talking about the results of this research. Please be aware, five of them are not scientists. However, last year's super conference (it was held in the states) had even more scientists featured. Their talks are now available on DVD for a special pack price if you get them all.

Find more details on this year's speakers here: http://creation2011.com/speakers.html

Feel free to watch and see for yourself. There's nothing like good old objectivity, you know.
I might, but I doubt I will.
I blame having watched Ray Comfort and Kent Hovind in the name of objectivity, It still makes my stomach turn and my forehead hurt. (If you ever seen either of them you might see how the one can be put off from ever seeing another apologist again.)

There's also quite a bit of excitement brewing over a giant sasquatchfest being held in the Pacific Northwest. Researchers and such all coming together to discuss something else that is obviously false too.

I would guess the same sort of thing goes on for the Loch Ness Monster as well.

It doesn't matter how many people you get to listen or attend. There's no magic number that, once crossed, will make your belief true. Creationism is never going to be true. It wouldn't matter if you had a billion people at the "conference".

So I really don't know what you're so excited about. You don't allow for thought. If it doesn't agree with the Bible then it's false. So what's to discuss? Presentations on how Darwin is wrong, how science is being misinterpreted, how not to mention God when mentioning God... sounds like a rousing good time.

I'd much rather have links to their abstracts and statistical analyses.

Don't forget S.E.T.I. and the LHC, which have (or had) scientists falling over each other at one time to be the first on the block to claim a real one.

But -- after all -- if it's something not officially sanctioned by a bored of scientists, it's worth ridicule, isn't it?

In other words, scientists will tell us if and when there was a WWF,* not the other way around.

* That stands for World-Wide Flood to those of you who have a college degree.

On a virtually unrelated point, 'a bore of scientists' would be a funny way to refer to a group of them.

Yes... Their job is to investigate reality, so they'll likely be the ones to find out. (of course someone else could bring forward the evidence...)

Predictions about the contents of a future event are hardly meant to be objective. Given the overwhelming record creationist's lack of ability to give good answers to questions regarding their beliefs, I think it's a pretty safe bet. (unless they are here to unveil some new evidence, or the questions are all screened)

I usually call them a 'shrewdness of scientists', as 'shrewdness' is what a group of apes is called.
