Okay, I've been contemplaing doing this for a while and just decided to start it up for those who are interested in reading your Bible a little bit. It's a tradition that every Shabbat, a portion of torah (parsha) is read, and for Messianics, the NT as well. This weeks parsha was a very interesting one that spoke to me on a personal level. Deuteronomy 3:23-7:11.

As Moses told Israel, it was to be passed down from generation to generation forever and that not one word of the torah is idle, but was given to us for our very life.

B'shem Yeshua ha Mashiach, amen.
In the name of Yeshua Messiah, amen.

Deuteronomy 3:23And I besought the LORD at that time, saying,

24O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew Thy servant Thy greatness, and Thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to Thy works, and according to Thy might?
25I pray Thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.
26But the LORD was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto Me of this matter. 27Get thee up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

That is a very serious passage to me! Moses who did all those wonders that were done in the wilderness, saw God, and spoke to Him as a friend face to face. Moses, who pleaded for the lives of the people and God heard Him ....... God says, 'Quit talking to me and pleading with Me! You are not going to go over the Jordan!' Wow! It's pretty concerning.

I heard a gent who preaches on the parshas make a very true point, saying that the first point of spiritual maturity is to recognise that God is God and you are a man! Sounds pretty straight forward, but when we look into our own lives and how we like to interpret scripture, we've swapped roles. We get to make the rules based upon what we think sounds nice or what is more befitting for our lives and thus we interpret scripture and make choices outside the basic facts that God has laid down for us and He is a being who thinks and behaves like a man. He changes His mind, He doesn't really mean what He says, and He makes some big mistakes!

Deuteronomy 11:26Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse;
27A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: 28And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.

There's the line in the sand.

One interesting point in this torah portion lies in something that Yeshua said to the people. 'If you had believed Moses, you would have believed Me, for Moses wrote of Me.' So, the qestion arises; if they don't believe Moses, do they really believe in Him? Unknowingly, Yeshua has been placed into this passage of torah ...

Deuteronomy 13:1If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
2And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
3Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
4Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear Him, and keep His commandments, and obey His voice, and ye shall serve Him, and cleave unto Him. 5And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.

Yeshua came doing signs and wonders and prophecying and they came to pass. Yet we're also being taught that Yeshua came to forsake the torah and the commandments of God.

Torah Parsha: Shoftim (Judges) - Deut. 16:18-21:9

While this torah portion outlines the 4 character traits of Yeshua, it also deals with how we humans must act out with caution in those roles as well. And it kinda hit a very raw spot with me; judging a situation without having all the facts with you and based upon an immediate, emotional reaction. It's a sin that we can easily fall into and shamefully I admit, I have too many times. It was a sobering reminder for me and I enjoyed this parsha very much! :D

It is a very heavy portion, yes, I will admit! There are several passages that I would love to put up but only fear a debate here. :/ Lev. 23? Isn't that the passage about the feasts??
Yes, see Lev 23:10 and Deut 26:1-2. Lev 23 puts all the activities of Ki tavo (when you enter) in their right places in time.

My favourites there are 29

29The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

And obviously 30

14But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

I guess it's difficult to say the word is in your mouth if you don't read it often.

I think that the key words there are 'to do'! As Paul himself says, 'For not the hearers of torah are just before God but the doers of the torah shall be justified.' It's not enough to hear and read if that isn't backed up with some doing. :D
