Pot calling kettle black.

Also, no true rebuttal. In addition, note the words "some" "most"...so much for a broad brush stroke.
:)I think the GT board should be renamed the "pot meet kettle" board.

Blue Letter Bible - Search Results for KJV
"pot"
occurs 22 times in 20 verses in the KJV

Blue Letter Bible - Search Results for KJV
"kettle"
occurs 1 time in 1 verse in the KJV

NKJV) 1 Samuel 2:14 Then he would thrust [it] into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; and the priest would take for himself all that the fleshhook brought up. So they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there.

Pot calling the kettle black - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The phrase "The pot calling the kettle black" is an idiom used to accuse a person of being guilty of the very thing they are pointing out. This may or may not be hypocritical or a contradiction.

There's this song by Alanis Morisette called Wunderkind. It's at the end of the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and despite it's being all secular there is some AWESOME Christian themes to it. ‪Wunderkind - Chronicles of Narnia‬‏ - YouTube

Please ignore her mispronunciation of Wunderkind. The whole thing about the song that gets me is being destined for a "deeper kind of wonderment". This is a HUGE theme throughout all of Lewis' work, how there is a DEEPER law that governs the universe, and how we, as Gods children, are given insight into those laws. It's a great song.

And then there's this one by Chris Rice,a practical staple in my CCR selection (Rice and Mullins...yeah they're good). ‪Chris Rice - Lemonade‬‏ - YouTube

*sings* Thanks for the lemonaaaaaaade!

:D Isn't that last one just so happy?! And they don't play it on the Christian radio station! Grrrrr.

I adore this song, it never gets old with me, I can just put it on repeat (lol) I have gotten so much insight when I study the scriptures with this blaring on #9 volume ^_^ (well, I havent listened on youtube, I cant Im on dial up) but this one (I think its so beautiful)

?"HD" - Celine Dion: The Prayer with Andrea Bocelli (Madison Square Garden Taking Chances Tour)?? - YouTube

I never tire of it, but I also love "Inside your heaven" by Carry Underwood, nothing new (both older, the first way older) but I do love them both.

I could listen to Bocelli all day long, and since I dont understand what he is singing (half the time) I just "make it up" as I go along^_^

I love doing that ... "sing and make a melody in your heart to the Lord" so I do (out loud) and (not so outloud) I do both.

I have so many I dont know who sings them, I buy only single songs by ear, and then put them on a cassete (was putting them on CD) but my burner broke going on old stuff (I know, get with it) lol

^_^That's my song! I sing it all the time in Church.

Well said.

I agree with cubinity, I often find that secular music has a richer, more authentic feel to it. Whereas Christian music is restricted to so few ideas, and any attempts to venture into previously traversed "secular" territory (angst, internal pain, etc.) just comes across silly.

I will say that the exception would be that if listening to secular music somehow becomes a stumbling block to one's self or to others in their immediate environment.

Most definitely and this part of the reason I left a gospel band I was in to sing pop. It can be way to restrictive and not being able to fully express myself would defeat the purpose of singing. There's very little freedom in it. As long as it's wholesome, non degrading, positive music I don't see a problem.

Good on you Rosalila:thumbsup:

Some one who is as nuts about it as I am^_^ I change the words in that one too, very slightly when they sing "about" rather then "to"

I love "direct to" (Him) songs not so much songs "about" (Him)

Christian music is chant and hymns. Contemporary "Christian" music is just...ugggg.

As for secular music, quite honestly, often, it is far more spiritual than so called "Christian" music.

I agree with you about contemporary christian music, though there is the occasional song that sits fine.

Didn't Jesus say this?..

Mark 7:15

(NIV)

15 Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.”

I so agree with this Tavita, amen! Do you know theres actually a christian song I will not sing the words to because in it (if I recall how it goes) said when I am feeling guilty (or something like that) attributes it to Satan and I was like whoa! When I done wrong and am convicted there aint no way I would say that. The song itself is beautiful but that line I will not say, cannot.

Agree, some PROFESSING err from the faith, what comes out of the mouth defiles a man agreed:thumbsup:

I agree Sis... when I use to sit in Church there were many songs I wouldn't sing because I didn't agree with them. I also find there tends to be a bit of a 'romantic' spirit about many of them.. that's my opinion anyway.. :).. and on the other side, there are many secular songs I won't sing for the same reason. It's up to the individual and their own conscience, just like Paul was saying about eating meat sacrificed to idols.

Should Christians listen to secular music? Does it matter what we listen to, and allow into our minds? Is Christian Rock,(Rap,country, etc.) music acceptable to God?

James 4:4 .....'Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.'

Is it okay for Christians to wear secular clothing? Are Christian pants, t-shirts, belts, skirts and shoes acceptable to God?

James 4:4 [...]

Is it okay for Christians to drive secular vehicles? Would Christian vehicles be acceptable to God?

James 4:4 [...]

Is it okay for Christians to eat secular food? Can Christians walk into secular buildings? Should a Christian have secular furniture?

Some songs are not praise tunes or hymns, well fine.

But what is meant by 'secular'?

Is it ok for me to listen to a secular song about driving in a car through the country? Why not?

Should I be entertained by a song that is full of blasphemy or glorifies sin? No.

Ridiculous, people giving praise to the Lord in lyric and music and you say uggh.

Would you uggg David as well?

1 Praise the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
2 Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.
Praise the LORD.

I pity your position.

I concur.
