It is beyond human comprehension, the atrocities that are being committed around the world. In Somalia evil is ruling the day, in Syria people are being shot down like wild animals. It goes on and on, Libya, Afghanistan and all over Africa. We here in the US treat our pets better than the people get treated in North Korea.

We are in dire times. Economies around the Globe are failing , due to the greed of man. mans inhumanity toward Man is causing untold stress throughout the planet. Man as a species is a sick and twisted species. If it wasn't for God, we would consume ourselves. I am losing hope in this world. I think we are in perilous time.

Lord I pray for your sons and daughters in Somalia who are going hungry. Please God allow the channels to be open, so that the food and supplies arrive.
Reminds me of this verse:

1Matthew 24:12
And because iniquity hath abounded, the charity of many shall grow cold.

Provide humanitarian aid where we can.

Help those Somalians who seek independence from Al Qaeda, to fight for their own freedom.

I would oppose sending our own troops in however. Nation building has been a dismal failure and we only end up being resented by the populace of the nations we send troops into.

Jim

I encourage anyone who wants to know what happens in Somalia to watch the movie Black Hawk Down.
[Very violent - but accurate accounts of the reason why things are as they are]

Our troops - unless in the millions probably wouldnt stand a chance of going back in to help the poor again.

It would take many armies, and for what end result would there be? Its unbelievable that even children carry guns and shoot.
Democracy would never survive unless the whole city were taken over and sharia law was gone.

I would support the idea of sending a collaborative force with other nations to defend those people from militants who prevent humanitarian aid from reaching those children. 29,000 is too much. Way too much. This is a devastating sin against humanity. Makes me think twice about wasting a single crumb.

Its heart wrenching. At the beginning of the movie they show the children dying. Starving waifs. Real ppl.

I find it impossible that this exists. But its real. Horribly real.

How should we help them fight, just send them arms and stand back and hope they figure out how to effectivelt deffend their villiges?

It sounds unbelievable, but this isn't the first time we've heard those number amounts. The figure comes from U.S. estimates based on mortality and nutrition surveys:

Nancy Lindborg, an official with the U.S. government aid arm, told a congressional committee in Washington on Wednesday that the U.S. estimates that more than 29,000 children under the age of 5 have died in the past 90 days. That number is based on nutrition and mortality surveys verified by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

From Associated Press:
The Associated Press: Famine's devastation: 4 dead children, 1 family

What's your sollution to this problem? People are needlessly suffering and dying. Right now. Thousands of them. What should the richest, most powerful, most influential country on the planet do about it?

We once were. Not anymore as of a couple days ago. We lost our rating - first time in 100 years.

How should we help them fight, just send them arms and stand back and hope they figure out how to effectivelt deffend their villiges?

Well, the thing is, the terrorists are in charge. I am talking real live thugs who rule with an arsenal. Enough weaponry to hand out weapons to every person in a huge city. Meantime, it is only when and if troops come by will they hand them out.

They do not have a government. None.
Its mob rule and fear.

The poor folks dont get the food because the terrorists who rule - take it for themselves and shoot and kill anyone grabbing for it.

I own Black Hawk Down and if you want to cry, watch it. Our troops went in to HELP the ppl...and many were killed and maimed by the ppl.
NO clue why... it makes no sense. But its sharia law in there and only sharia law engaged by the most armed.

These ppl dont have a chance.
I say - help the poor escape slowly - somehow - no idea how. And stop sending food.

Its been reported that 29,000 children under the age of 5 have died of starvation in Somalia. The drought has killed crops - but even worse, humanitarian aid cannot get through because of militants refusing western aid.

And its not just Somalia - neighboring Kenya and other nations are affected by the drought and lack of aid.

29,000 Somali kids already dead - Times LIVE

Please pray for those poor children and all that are suffering from this crisis.

Oh God, have mercy! Father intervene as only You can do, in Jesus name, amen.

I agree we should not use too much energy. That's why I burn clean wood and renew what I take (which is mostly wood that had fallen anyway), why I drive a clean-burning vehicle that gets over 45mpg, that's why I don't have central air, that's why I don't water my lawn, etc. Still, they die. What are you doing?

I commend you for all you do. Since I have been caught in that great southern heat wave which gave us temperatures in the hundred and teens last week, I could not imagine not having central air. (Not that it brings a house any cooler than the mid 80's in that kind of weather.)

I didn't know there were vehicles that get over 45 mpg other than hybrids. Our cars are good on gas and adequate for the current size of our family (grown children, one still at home sometimes, so they are small.)

We don't water our lawn (a losing battle in this heat.) We have drought resistant grass, typical for the south. We don't use our fireplace (it's in a room of the house we don't often use, and our winters aren't that cold.)

I try to combine trips, recycle, etc. I donate to Catholic Relief Services regularly, and have a sponsored child through Christian Foundation for Children and Aging. I try to help in my local community, but I recognize that the situation in Somalia is far more pressing than anything in my local community.

I especially try to help people I care about who are in need, even though that kind of help's not tax deductible. I know lots of people who fall between the cracks.

Ahhh folks, money wont help them.

Look this is not a place where ministries are set up. There is no charitable organizations able to build there to my knowledge. Of course who here wants to be instantly martyred, this is the perfect place.

No one watched the youtube. K.

In the 10 minutes of that vid, you can see how these ppl suffer oppression.
In 1993 - according to the video - 300,000 died.
Genocide most likely by starvation and violent rule.

There is nothing that can be done except either let it go as it is or use military force - police the terrorists - and set up a FORM of government.

But you will have almost an impossible time doing that - since this place is 100% sharia law.

THIS is what occurs when a nation is 100% Muslim.
Unfortunately, i am going to get bonked on the head for stating this... but it is what it is.

Prayer - with urgency - is probably the best weapon possible, and the use of the Lord's ok to go in and change the set up.
Pray for the poor to be able to have food by softening the hard hearts who have no empathy and compassion.

Instead of the movie, I would recommend reading the book
"Infidel," by Ayaan Hirsi Magan Ali.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infidel_(book)

Ayaan is a Somali woman who was tortured as a child, having her genitiles mutilated in what was custom in Somalia known as femal circumcision.

She suffered greatly as women do in that culture until she finally fled to Amsterdam seeking asylum after he father gave her away to a stranger he met in a bar, in a prearranged marriage.

While in Amsterdam, she went to school obtaining a college degree, became a Dutch citizen and was elected to the Dutch parliament.

After making a movie about the plight of Muslim women, her friend and co-producer of the film was gun down by an Islamic radical in Amsterdam.

The book will give you a clear idea of what life is like in Somalia and how the majority of the culture is male dominated Islamic fundamentalism.

Humanitarian aid and information is first and foremost in changing the hearts and minds of people.

Eventually, the Al Qaeda forces causing the problem would have to be put down through force, for it's all they know, but it has to be done by Somalians, not outsiders.

Most of the Islamic nations like Afghanistan, are xenophobic and reject outsider military forces in their lands, even when the intention is good.
