Hi all,

Many of you might heard of the book "The Secret," it said The Law of Attraction can be used to attain whatever we want if we make a wish and imagine ourselves have it and hold it....and do it long enough. By doing this we also have to enjoy and appreciate what we already have. If time is long enough, our wish will come true.

I think it is somewhat similar compare with what we read in Bible. And they also claim that they can provide science evidence, please google Abraham-Hicks, they are the founder of this wave of positive-thinking, I was amazed that so many people said they successed by following what they taught.

What do you think? Do you think LOA is evil? Can a Christian pray to God and while praying he imagine he achiev his goal and appreciate God let him have it and praise the lord that he is so mighty to help him (however, at that time he did not successed yet actually)

Quite frankly Firewalkerhike, positive thinking and having faith are two different things. Positive thinking contradicts...ask and it shall be given to you; seek and you shall find, and knock and the door shall be opened unto you. Praying and trusting that the Lord will provide is my stance. Positive thinking logic tends to say, I don't need God to supply my every needs because I can think positive and get what I need all by myself.

The "Law of Attraction" is magick, same as much of the present day "Word of Faith"/name it and claim it stuff. It's magick and therefore has no place in Christianity. Christian prayer and spirituality isn't about exerting one's will upon the universe in order to get out of it what we want, but to submit ourselves in humble obedience and faithfulness to God by being disciples and followers of Jesus.

Law of Attraction is pretty unique. As a reformed baptist, I believe all things are predestind. However, theres obviously a dichotomy in that theology. Obviously you need to have faith to have prayers answers, perform miracles, etc. I think faith is the Law of Attraction, except the way books like the Secret describe its use is more like witchcraft, self gratifying stuff. It's like praying to God to kill someone for you, and really have faith He would do it. It jus ain't right.

Hi folks,

I think that it all comes down to the interpretation of both The Bible and Christianity.

The whole Secret and Law of Attraction thing is basically a repackaging and marketing of what manifested from the "New Thought movement" of the late 19th to early 20th century.

I think that the most intriguing interpretations I have come across so far, are the lectures and writings of Neville Goddard. He wrote At Your Command in 1939. This tallies up closely with the law of attraction.

An excellent book that I still haven't quite completed yet is Love without conditions (1994) by Paul Ferrini. This is a book that (to me) seems to cut through into what I believe might be the real message.

I think it's always a good idea to bare in mind that the Bible was created in the 4th Century AD, long after Jesus and his followers had passed away. It was the creation of The First Council of Nicea which took place in present day iznick in Turkey, by the Roman Emperor Constantine. I believe that the purpose of the council was to decide what to include and what to leave out... an editing process.

There are texts that survived the Nicean edits, due to the fact that they were hidden not long after they were written. Among them are the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi library which included the Gospel of Thomas. As far as I am aware, there is no mention of any Hell (as in negative afterlife), Weeping or Gnashing of the teeth, in such texts. [Note: I have no ego in this matter, and I am very happy to be proven wrong if this is not the case]

A scientist called Gregg Braden has studied these "Gnostic Christian" texts, along with the traditions of other ancient spiritual groups, and has identified a mode of prayer which exists in all of these ancient teachings, and seems to be somewhat similar to what many describe as the law of attraction. Although Gregg never refers to it as that, perhaps to distance himself from the very commercial and heavily marketed film "The Secret".

Look forward to hearing your views. :)

You say you believe in predestination .Does that mean that we have no freewill,
that All was planned ahead ,and therefore there was no need
for us to make any effort? Is that what you mean?

On the post .Yes it is possible for those with a very 'dark satanic side '
to their nature to will for what they want, but in the end it will destroy
them.We must must be careful while asking God for what we need to
let Him decide whether or not to grant us, as He will always give us
only what is good for us in the long run.
