Herman Cain doesn't like the first amendment very much.

‪Herman Cain: Americans Can Stop Mosques‬‏ - YouTube

WALLACE: But couldn’t any community then say they don’t want a mosque in our community?
CAIN: They could say that. Chris, lets go back to the fundamental issue that the people are basically saying they’re objecting to. They’re objecting to the fact Islam is both a religion and a set of laws, Sharia law. That’s the difference between any one of our other traditional religions where it’s just about religious purposes. The people in the community know best, and I happen to side with the people in the community.
WALLACE: You’re saying any community, if they want to ban a mosque?
CAIN: Yes. They have a right to do that. That’s not discriminating based upon religion.
Than just what is it, Mr. Cain?

he is just like every other typical Neo-Con warmongerer... as long as the 1st admendment agrees with what he wants to do it is ok..

I am a christian and dont like Islam, however building a Mosque is within their rights, just like the buddhists, Mormons, etc..... or even Pagans to have a place..

Yet he's the only candidate who is making this suggestion and warmongerer my eye. It takes real group think to cast that net.

Cain is very much wrong on this one. But a warmongerer? Like you, I'm not sure where that came from. Methinks someone is obsessed.

Wow. Unfortunate that he feels the need to favor religious discrimination.

I'm in favor of some forms of religious discrimination. Certainly in favor of the right anyway. I just don't believe that the government does have, or should have, the authority to discriminate against a religion or religious group.

Try building Burger King around Mecca or erect their logo ...... Sign lol.
lol

We have building codes ordinances for a reason.
Put a strip joint across the street from a school or church.... Etc lol
How do building codes or strip joints pertain to what Cain stated?

City officials consider logistics all the time...... No one told them they can't build it. Just not there!

Yes, but it is discrimination if the reason for not being allowed to build is because of what religion is being built. Not because of zoning.

Just curious what discrimination you would favor and what the right way to discriminate would be?

Mecca ain't in the US.

True, but what has that got to do with this? In this case, the mosque would be next door to Grace Baptist Church, so it would seem that the building ordinances do allow religious buildings.

Last time I checked, the first amendment said "Congress shall make no law...". Where is there any law that says a city zoning board can't deny a building permit on the basis on religion? This is as silly as the Canadians arguing that terrorism is protected by their freedom of religious expression laws.

We're in 100% agreement here. Stupid, wrong, but not war mongering.

Heard no other building permits have been issued to anyother religious group but Muslims.

PC anyone? Worried about offending them..... What about the victims and the law bidding citizen?

Reminds me how when a criminal breaks into ur house and u turn on him then the law turns on u...... The rightful home owner....... Giving the criminal more right.

14th Amendment. It applies the Bill of Rights to the states, thus making them as bound to Separation of Church and State as the federal government.

Well...that settles that. Not voting for Cain.

You can't bar construction based on religious use of the building either.

As for churches nearby, checked up on it and the planned site of the tennessee mosque has 4 churches within half a mile including 1 around the corner. There is no legitimate zoning issue at play here that I've found.
