Just call yourself Christian and show them what a Christian is supposed to live like. Be the kind of Christian that you'd like to meet and align yourself with what God teaches us through the Bible. Don't leave the name "Christian" to the people who call themselves Christian but don't follow what the Bible says.

A teacher of mine speaks of the dilemma you describe. To address this, she simply pronounces the word Christian with a long "i" sound. Said differently, the word "Christ" and the word "Christian" start out sounding the same. It helps to make the "Christ" in "Christian" distinct.

I know what you mean about having the same name as lot of hypocrites do. A lot of people say that they are Christian, but there is no change or a clear walk with the Lord. But if you ask them if they are a real Christian, and explain what it is, the number of hypocrites would drop dramatically.

But as I read through Romans, Paul claims to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. Sure, we can be Christians, but maybe we should say, "I am a disciple of Jesus Christ." The word "disciple" means student. We are students learning under the Master, who is Jesus.
