My son came to me about 3 months ago and told me that he was a transgender...

As a christian mother am I wrong supporting him?

Absolutely not. Even after transition, you will remain her mother. Your love and understanding will play a very important role in the person she becomes.

Most other Christians will likely disagree, but a transsexual person can be a Christian (not that it is easy due to prejudice). Despite what many seem to believe, being transsexual is not an unpardonable sin.

As a post op transsexual and a Christian woman, I'm involved in a local church, (although no one in the church knows my medical history). I will also say that God has very greatly blessed me.

I hope your child has a strong faith. There will be many trials for her to endure relating to the attitudes of and rejection by well meaning but misguided Christians.

I will pray for you both.

Gender has always been rather fluid.
Maybe in your lifetime.... As I said before, where I come from, "sex" has two meanings - the act of intercourse is one, and gender (male or female) is the other. None of this "I feeeeel like a woman...."

As I said before, apparently someone changed the meaning of the word "gender" when I wasn't looking.
Then stop going with the meaning that's outdated by at least 20 years.

Still waiting on that evidence that God assigned gender roles.

I don't think God mapped out gender roles. All I am contending is that God did not create men with female body parts and women with male body parts. People have either imagined this (agreeing with a deception) or made it so through surgical procedure. Either way, it is very sad. Not something God designed.

I don't think God mapped out gender roles. All I am contending is that God did not create men with female body parts and women with male body parts.
Male with female parts and female with male parts means there's gender roles involved and that the traditional gender roles have been violated to change society or better fit the individual, so you just contradicted yourself.

People have either imagined this (agreeing with a deception) or made it so through surgical procedure.
Please prove that this is a deception. You have not provided one iota of evidence that supports your conclusion. A vague verse that talks about body parts doesn't do anything to help your case.

Either way, it is very sad. Not something God designed.
What's sad is people who say 'This is the way it is.' Even though there's no real reason to believe such. If it's not something God designed, then He would have stated that it is wrong or stated that He designed it a certain way. God never did so, so this 'Not something God designed,' is just an excuse to justify prejudice. If you sincerely believe transgendered people are violating God's plan, then prove it from the Bible.

I doubt that it was deception. I very clearly remember praying as hard as I could several times in my life and hearing the voice of jesus telling me that he loved me and I would be with him regardless. Even calls me by my preferred name. I have prayed and prayed over this and I have come to the conclusion that I will be with Jesus and God as amber and not my male body. My spirit, soul and entire consciousness is very much female and always has been. Now I just want my body to be congruent with that.

Really hard for those who don't go through it themselves to understand but I will try my best to help people understand.

God bless and see ya in heaven :)

When we all meet in heaven, I think it is gonna be quite a shock to discover how many transpeople are saved.

See ya there!

Then the natural occurrence of XX males and XY females must be very distressing to your faith!
Not really. This topic is not central to my faith.

Male with female parts and female with male parts means there's gender roles involved and that the traditional gender roles have been violated to change society or better fit the individual, so you just contradicted yourself.
Hmmm, I guess I don't know what you mean by "gender roles". As far as I know, it means the men hunt and the women gather, boys play with trucks and girls play with dolls. That's what I meant when I said the Bible doesn't assign gender roles.

Please prove that this is a deception. You have not provided one iota of evidence that supports your conclusion. A vague verse that talks about body parts doesn't do anything to help your case.

God never said "I made plankton to be green. Plankton that is not green is not in my perfect plan." But it is true that the natural color of plankton is green. The fact that some of it is now red is observably accurate, but it's because it is mutated. This mutated state is an indication that something is wrong; there is waste in the ocean that has caused it. In humans I believe GLBT aberrations are indicators that something has gone wrong.

Really hard for those who don't go through it themselves
I'm sure that's true. It sounds like you have really struggled with this issue. Fortunately, you won't struggle with it forever. The Bible says that in Heaven we will be like the angels.

I have spent an inordinate amount of time in this thread, probably making it seem as if this issue is extremely important or sensitive to me, but in truth it is not; I rarely think about it. What's important to me is that there be some area of CF where we can speak about things with the presupposition that the Bible is true. I had not stopped by this section often, but I didn't expect it to look so much like the other ethics section, and that disappointed me. My belief as a Christian is that wherever the Bible contradicts my experience, I stand corrected.

This is the christians only area on the forum, and I do feel that we all feel that the bible is true.
If you ever get a chance watch the movie The Bible tells me so...
I watched it the other night and it really explained so much to me, made me cry.

Then this stink you're making about transgendered not being in God's plan has no basis.

Hmm, I don't think there is a verse that talks about body parts, so I don't know what you mean by said vague verse.
You quoted 'Male and female he created them,' as if this were a proof against transgendered being natural.
God never said "I made plankton to be green. Plankton that is not green is not in my perfect plan." But it is true that the natural color of plankton is green. GLBT's are NOT aberrations. We see GLB in nature all the time. If you seriously think your argument will fly, then prove that GLBT is unnatural.

The Bible says nothing about the issue, so how can the Bible possibly contradict your experience?

Do you know what it's like to be a Christian and to be part of the GLBT community? Any idea at all? Saying that we'll be like the angels in heaven- what a load of rubbish. You mean to say that a part of me isn't good enough, a part of me I cannot possibly change, and that God will only change it once I die? Get real. God accepts me just the way I am just as he accepts the subject of this thread just the way she is. God doesn't expect us to change. Why the heck should you?

There is a difference between not believing the Bible is true, and not agreeing with your interpretation of what the Bible says and means. I don't know why this is such a difficult concept for some people.

There are over 2 billion Christians, and 35,000 denominations of Christianity, all claiming to be true, guided by the Holy Spirit, following the Bible, etc. etc. No 2 Christians can agree on absolutely everything, so why do you believe that you are the only one capable of being right?

Jaws, what DO you mean by "gender roles"?

(sorry, I am on my iPad, and I don't know how to "select" on here....)
You asked about 'Male and female he created them' as proof against transgendered being natural - the context was that there are only two sexes, or genders (I see these words as synonymous and do nt understand your delineation between them).

You said, "GLBT's are NOT aberrations. We see GLB in nature all the time. If you seriously think your argument will fly, then prove that GLBT is unnatural."
The fact that we can see something in nature does not mean that it is in God's plan, as I illustrated with the plankton example.....

You said, "The Bible says nothing about the issue, so how can the Bible possibly contradict your experience?"
It doesn't, not in this case. I was speaking more generally. This is what happens when we just pick apart posts without reading them.

Do you know what it's like to be a Christian and to be part of the GLBT community? Any idea at all? Saying that we'll be like the angels in heaven- what a load of rubbish. Gender roles are that which define what is 'masculine' and 'feminine' and anything in between.
(sorry, I am on my iPad, and I don't know how to "select" on here....)
You asked about 'Male and female he created them' as proof against transgendered being natural - the context was that there are only two sexes, or genders (I see these words as synonymous and do not understand your delineation between them).
As I showed earlier, they are not synonymous. The delineation is there specifically for people like you who just think guys are guys and girls are girls and there's nothing in between. Reality shows otherwise. Take me for example- I'm a guy who's not into sports, loves video games, loves martial arts, and is great at working with kids and families. I'm not a typical guy, and I'm of the opinion that being a typical guy is unhealthy.

You said, "GLBT's are NOT aberrations. We see GLB in nature all the time. If you seriously think your argument will fly, then prove that GLBT is unnatural."
The fact that we can see something in nature does not mean that it is in God's plan, as I illustrated with the plankton example.....
You illustrated nothing with the plankton example. The fact that it's not in the Bible alone should tell you that you're making rules that aren't there.

You said, "The Bible says nothing about the issue, so how can the Bible possibly contradict your experience?"
It doesn't, not in this case. I was speaking more generally. This is what happens when we just pick apart posts without reading them.
I read every single post I respond to. Nowhere have you taken back your terribly erroneous statement that God only makes guys to be guys and girls to be girls- terribly erroneous and pointed out by XX males and XY females that someone else said.

The Bible doesn't use the word "transgender" because it doesn't exist.
By that logic anything not in the Bible does not exist. I guess pedophilia isn't really real, then. Or cloning. Or genetic modification. Or identity theft.

But do I really need to point out the flaw in saying 'if it's not in the Bible, it doesn't exist'?
