Orthodox wants to turn lutheran

I don't know about that...a Greek yiayia can be as formidable force as any Muslim if she finds out her grandson has been flirting with the Lutheran Church. :p

Seriously Fotis...I have the perfect book for you to read so you can see Orthodoxy compared to Lutheranism side by side and get a good picture of both--where they are compatible and where they are not. In the late 1500's the Tuebingen Lutherans sent their theology to the Patriarch in Constantinople and through as series of mail exchanges, 3 on each side, you can see what each believes compared to the other. This was at the time the Book of Concord was being finalized so the Lutheran presentation is definitely representative of confessional Lutheranism. You might even be able to find the compilation in Greek.

Don't let a Lutheran tell you about Orthodoxy and don't let an Orthodox tell you about Lutheranism. Read both for yourself from the sources. But don't tell your yiayia or you will be in big trouble! ;)
BD can tell us both sides since she's experienced in both. Believe it or not she is bias towards one side though. :p

Perhaps there might be a Lutheran pastor associated with the German embassy or a Scandinavian embassy who serves the needs of the ambassadorial staff stationed in Athens? It is possible that one of the staff members could be an ordained Lutheran minister and that he is just a part-time minister and full-time embassy staff member?

As i said previously there is a german lutheran church here in thessaloniki where i live... i have sent them an e mail ... but they said that i should contact with the Greek Evangelical Church... the point is that this church Reformed. And they said that they can't do anything for me:cool:

Great suggestion, Basil the Great!

So I went and checked. Unfortunately, turns out, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland has a tourist pastor only in Rhodos -- that's too far.

However, the Church of Sweden has the whole works. They even have a Scandinavian group in Thessaloniki, with a visiting pastor from Athens.

I realy want to join a lutheran church but there aren't any here in greece...What shoud i do

Hi Fotis. I just read this thread for the first time. Then I noticed that you now consider yourself a Mormon. Bit surprising ... granted, this thread is almost a year old; but a year isn't very long for an Orthodox-wanting-to-become-Lutheran to become Mormon.

I am a former Mormon familiar with the way missionary efforts are carried out. Unlike some denominations that encourage investigators to to take their time so they understand what they are getting into (Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox) LDS missionaries often speed investigators through the conversion process. I've seen some go from their first lesson to baptism in a few weeks, so less than a year is enough time to convert to the LDS faith a dozen times.

I think the LDS church should strive to take investigators through a slower conversion process so they have a lower turnover rate.

Correct. It is an old cult.
The word cult has become pretty meaningless. People define and use it as they please. Below are some typical definitions of the word that show that it can be applied to just about every religion that exists.

1. a particular system of religious worship, especially with reference to its rites and ceremonies.
2.
an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, especially as manifested by a body of admirers: the physical fitness cult.
3.
the object of such devotion.
4.
a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.
5.
Sociology . a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols.

Since Mormon views regarding the Trinity conflict with Scripture, and therefore the Nicene Creed, their theology is unorthodox. Even here at CF, as open as we are, discussions regarding their theology, beliefs and practices are restricted to this Forum: Unorthodox Theology

Such discussion is NOT allowed in this Forum, and therefore violates the Off Topic rule:

Congregational Forum Restrictions, Christian Only Forums, and Off-Topic posts
Do not teach or debate in any Congregational Forum unless you are truly a member and share its core beliefs and teachings. Questions and fellowship are allowed, proselytizing is not.

Do not post in the forums reserved for Christians only, unless you are truly a Nicene Creed, Trinitarian Christian (please see our Statement of Faith to know exactly what that is). If you wish to discuss unorthodox doctrines, you may do so in Unorthodox Theology.

Respect and become familiar with each forum's Statement of Purpose. Start threads that are relevant to that forum's stated purpose; submit replies that are relevant to the topic of discussion. Off Topic posts will be moved or removed.

For those who wish to discuss these matters, take it to Unorthodox Theology.

Excellent! I just wanted to pop in and say as a struggling Orthodox myself, I appreciate this comment. :) Most Orthodox online are diehard converts and would push Orthodoxy to no end.

^_^ The irony is hilarious.

I try. ;)

While I am an Orthodox convert, I just cannot believe that it is the only way. To do that, I would have to accept the damnation of my Protestant family and I just can't, right or wrong.

I think everyone has to find their way to God, wherever you fall in life.
