The percentages given are as a percentage of all the Anglicans in the communion. There are 38 provinces. TEC or ECUSA is one of the provinces. Just BTW, ECUSA has about 2.3M members. By comparison Sudan has 5 million, Uganda 8M and Nigeria 13.5M.

With regard to whether the entirety of TEC is liberal is an interesting question. Certainly there are conservative diocese, conservative local churches and many conservative individuals within TEC. However, I would think that it is indeed reasonable to consider TEC to be generally a liberal church. Personally, I don't think that there should be a negative connotation to being a liberal church. A church can be a liberal one and yet not step beyond the doctreine, teachings and agreements of the Communion.

Ok, that sounds more like I had heard. Thanks for the explanation.

Mark1,
Thanks for the links which prove my point.

Yes. Yes it is. Certainly some have left the TEC and formed their own group which should of course be recognised as they remain inline with Lambeth 1.10. But yes I suspect there are plenty of members who still hold to the truth.

I still don’t think the minority realise that huge amounts of the Anglican Communion and Christians worldwide wouldn’t consider clergy who celebrate their divorce with a eucharist, are in and promote same sex relationships, believe in women’s choice for abortion, think they can be Christians and Muslims at the same time etc. are even Christians. The statements along the lines of ‘a departure from the faith once delivered’, is a mild pronouncement of the situation.
One has to realise that people who have beliefs more totally opposed than in common cant be in communion.
It just so happens that same sex relationships are not just one minor legalality, but the scriptures warn of it affecting salvation, and one only has to hear the arguments about love to realise its not the same love or God, because God is love.

Maybe an Evangelical Charismatic Anglican then ? :p
I suppose that's what I would be, though my actual church membership is Assemblies of God. Due to the strong influence of C.S. Lewis, and later N.T. Wright, on my theology, I've always thought of myself as at least an honorary Anglican.

I am Evangelical. Some of my favourite evangelicals that have come from this communion are C.S. Lewis, J.I Packer, John Stott, Alister McGrath, Tom Wright and of course Bishop J.C. Ryle.

I can also say that I am on the Reformed portion of the Evangelical camp.

I wouldn't have thought of Lewis as an evangelical. I'd have said he was pretty much a broad church kind of guy.

Lewis is highly loved in Evangelical circles, though not so much by fundamentalist types. The evangelical teachers that I hold in very high regard all speak highly of Lewis. Several conservative Reformed Seminaries even have courses about Lewis and his work.

That's were I am at. I have a smattering of influences in my life and consider myself a member of the CotN, but an honorary member of the Charismatic world, the UMC and TEC.

Cheeky beggar!

We have big silver doo-dahs which hold church wine. Not a cup holder in sight!

Well don't drink your lattes out of those doo dahs or some Ladies of the Church are gonna get a little touchy.

Which reminds me, great Lady of the Church story, just gotta figure out where to post it.

Church coffee is nowhere near latte standard and we drink it out of special cups and saucers.

The ladies are very particular about the operation of the coffee machines.

Sure, but Catholics, the Orthodox, Lutherans and even others also like him a lot, but that doesn't mean he is one of those groups.

In fact although I think he tended to be broad in his praxis, I'd say, at lest by today's terms, he was theologically further on the catholic side.

I like what he says of his views in Mere Christianity about his "own beliefs." He wrote, "About those, as I said before, there is no secret. To quote Uncle Toby: 'They are written in the Common-Prayer Book.'"

Ok, while I love C.S. Lewis' work, I admit that he makes some Evangelicals nervous.

You can tell that Naomi is an evangelical because her church doesn't have pews as ordained by God and because they celebrate communion on a "table". But we still love her and accept her for who she is.
Somebody would be very welcome to our pews. Preferably come and get them before they fall apart from being moved too often.
