I preferred these:
George Soros Plans to Overthrow America - The Daily Show with Jon Stewart - 11/18/10 - Video Clip | Comedy Central

The Manchurian Lunatic - The Daily Show with Jon Stewart - 11/18/10 - Video Clip | Comedy Central
I'm thinking one billionaire and bunches of different news services as opposed to a bunch of billionaires and one news service? I'm going for the many different ones. ;)
tulc(thinks Jon Stewart is a lot of fun) :D

How independent is your news services?

My favorite news service lists two major oil companies and several offshore/energy/shipping industries as its "partners," so one would have to be pretty thick not to notice a certain kind of dependency there. And indeed, their news stories are distinctively business-friendly with emphasis on the prospects rather than problems of offshore energy & exploration, with occasional reports on leaking nuclear subs & ships and environmentally cannibalistic nickel plants by an eco & nuclear watchdog thrown in the mix. Similarly, their cross-border politics pieces tend to focus on cooperation rather than conflict, which is a nice change, as the mainstream media tends to consider only conflicts to be news worthy.

As a news service consumer, I consider it my responsibility to be aware of the background & particular bias of my sources, as there just is no such source as unbiased source.

True. I try to use as many news sources, diverse sources as I can. As you can see near my avatar, I am 61 years old, working full-time with no intentions on EVER retiring. God has blessed me with a wonderful, technical, extremely varied engineering career. So I've seen and worked in nearly every industry except nuclear. God has given me the ability to see through much that is written to see the underling truth.

I quote a lot from Fox news. Someone, if they haven't already, is going to go into the money behind Fox news. Well, that's only fair, so be it.

The real problem is what is NOT getting reported. Some news sources are deliberately under reporting important news, maybe to protect its advertisers -- it's hard to say. Right now, the fact that Christians are being targeted and killed in the Muslim world is being under-reported. Is this so the President is not embarrassed for doing nothing about it? Is it an attempt to protect his re-election campaign? Where is the neutral press?

I no longer have patience for mainstream news. Mostly, I feel like Neo in Matrix, seeing "the code" behind it all: the framing, editing, the quotes chosen and the ones deliberately left out, the missing context. I prefer to read, see, hear the actual reports and speeches for myself. Thanks to the internet for making it possible.

The Internet helps, but some won't even believe video footage. I showed someone a youtube video of an interview with Al Gore that I originally saw live in which he said he invented the Internet. This person still refused to believe it, instead believing some hoax website. Oh well.

He is the president of America, not president of Christendom.

Sorry, I'd rather put more stock into the two guys who actually invented the Internet, who have pretty much exonerated Gore from trying to steal credit for it.

Transcript: Vice President Gore on CNN's 'Late Edition'
BLITZER: And the Al GORE vision will not be necessarily completely the same as the Bill Clinton?

GORE: Well, no, because the challenges we face in the future are different from the ones we face in the past. I have been very much involved in shaping our current economic policies, and I feel as if I know a great deal about how to keep our prosperity going.

We have a governing coalition willing to support the ideas that work for the American people. I have also participated in shaping our environmental and education and crime fighting policies and other initiatives, but the challenges are going to be brand new.

You know, the 21st century is not only the beginning of a new millennium, it's the beginning of an entirely new era in human history and we have to take new approaches.

BLITZER: I want to get to some of the substance of domestic and international issues in a minute, but let's just wrap up a little bit of the politics right now.

Why should Democrats, looking at the Democratic nomination process, support you instead of Bill Bradley, a friend of yours, a former colleague in the Senate? What do you have to bring to this that he doesn't necessarily bring to this process?

GORE: Well, I will be offering -- I'll be offering my vision when my campaign begins. And it will be comprehensive and sweeping. And I hope that it will be compelling enough to draw people toward it. I feel that it will be.

But it will emerge from my dialogue with the American people. I've traveled to every part of this country during the last six years. During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system.

During a quarter century of public service, including most of it long before I came into my current job, I have worked to try to improve the quality of life in our country and in our world. And what I've seen during that experience is an emerging future that's very exciting, about which I'm very optimistic, and toward which I want to lead.

Whether Vice President Emeritus Gore is actually claiming to have invented the Internet or merely claiming to have taken legislative initiative that enabled the Internet to take off, is then purely US partisan political semantics. I personally do not read the Vice President Emeritus's wording to mean that he claimed to have invented the Internet single-handedly, but then again, I don't have to read it like the Devil reads the Bible, as he is not a political opponent of mine whom I'm trying to beat and bring down.

Based on what? Since when has there existed some objective standard with which to measure the news-worth of a particular occurrence?

Funny part of all this, Gore wasn't even in Congress when the Internet was created.

Since you are a Muslim and I am a Christian with Jewish relatives we are probably not going to find common ground on this issue. I based my opinion on the work of others who have so stated. You are entitled to your opinions based on the sources you rely on.
