Once You Go Red Velvet, You Never Go Back

Partly to honor Austin and partly to call attention to one of the most powerfully delicious desserts of our time; who else here is a lover of the red velvet?
A friend made one of the aforementioned cakes for a potluck on Wednesday and sent the leftovers home with me. Said leftovers did not live to see this day.

I've never had red velvet cake, ever. My birthday is coming up soon. I say one of you makes me a red velvet cake and send it to me.

I've never had a red velvet cake that wasn't outrageously dry. I'm not a fan. Maybe someday Jeff, you can find me some real red velvet.

I worked in a bakery.
They're ok, but not my fave...

yum!! Good ones are excellent. Gotta know where to get em.

Plus, as cupcakes anyway, they're so much prettier than chocolate or vanilla.

It is delicious. Agreed!

Never had it - couldn't tell ya.


But I'll say this: I don't think cake should be red. It's just not right!

^That. It was ok, but I've had better. Give me german chocolate any day!

I'm sorry, the only red velvet I've ever had just.. I knew what was in it and it turned me off from it. It looked absolutely amazing though and honestly didn't taste bad, it was actually quite good. I just can't know the ingredients of certain things, I guess.

I've never had red velvet. Although I did see curtains that were made of it once.

Mine either came from a box or grandma's recipe (nothing nasty in it). But I understand, that's why I don't want to understand hot dogs either

Never? Surely you must've been going to all the wrong bakeries! Let me know when you make it to NYC and I'll see if my friend can whip up another batch of moist, red velvety goodness.

I can think of maybe a handful of times I've had homemade cakes that weren't overdone.

I do not understand why carryover cooking is such a foreign concept to most people.
