Is it at all possible to only work part time and use loans and grants to go to school AND live off of? I'm not sure I can work full time AND parent AND school full time AND not go insane.

I've not ever gotten a loan before for this so I'm a complete dummy (I've always just paid and I can't do that and not work full time obviously).

Well I think I qualify for a pell grant for alot of my actual school school and when I finish the state will pay back my loans if I live in an under serviced area (which is where I live now and plan to work after I'm done). I just wonder if the pell grant would nullify the loan options

Oh, I knew what you were saying. I was just having commentary. So the low funds to number of people ratio won't be so huge an issue (that's what qualifies me to begin with). I just know the more advanced clases in the pre-reqs will be horrifying with full time work and the girls.

Trust me, I'm an expert in this. I've been dealing with this for years and especially this semester haha..

If you go to school full time you will be offered a certain amount after filling out FAFSA. You probably only want to accept the subsidized loans, because the unsubsidized charges you intrest right away, while the subsidized only charges once you graduate. There should be enough to live off of with the subsidized alone, especially if you're working part time. They will offer you an amount after you're done filing for it, and you can accept whatever amount you wish.

Hope that helps.

I lived at home but got pell grant and state grant. I would have been able to get loans or scholarships up until the amount that the school estimated for expenses in my living situation. I did work part-time, but managed to save some money. If I were to have an extraordinary expense that could not be covered by savings/work/FA, then I would have been able to petition the Financial Aid office for an increase in available loans for that term. I think they had a form, but they required proof of the expenses I was incurring and which were necessary expenses. That is how it worked as a California State Uni student with Sallie Mae. I hope that helps.

BTW, private tutoring pays well if you need a $20 here or there.

I received pell grants and loans through school. I used loans to live off of for my first 4 years of school..I worked part time. I worked full time during my Master's degree, so I only took out enough loans to pay for school then, not living expenses.

so as long as I'm a full time student and have good grades of course I'd be good until the end of my study (or only until I reach my degree?)? I have to have a BS before I start PA school.

School loans suck. They just jack up the price of tuition, so all you end up with is saddled with debt. I may have mine paid off by the time I'm 50.
normally I'd agree with you except if I work in this area the state will pay back most of it from year to year because it's medically underserviced (that's IF I can get into PA school... slippery slope I know)
Wait, why would you pay for school?
because you can't go for free...
