Well, I can't give much advice, but I think the pointy-end of the wedge should be some books directed at a popular audience, along with a suggestion that school boards "teach the controversy." 

And that will keep the door open?

In theory it should not only keep the door open, but open it in the first place!

Fantastic! Carrots could never do that. It seems that I should have just been eating them right from the start!

Just use one of Darwin's dusty old books. Then if anyone says that Darwin's books are not any good for anything, you can testify that you found a good use for it.
