I just started watching Fullmetal Alchemist on Netflix, and I'm around episode 20. Awesome stuff. Three friends of mine have claimed if their favorite anime, and although I was skeptical at first, I'm really surprised at how good it is.

Can't wait to finish it up.

FMA is a very good story, although I would like to ask what version you're watching, just Full Metal Alchemist or Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. The difference between the two is that when the first one was made, the manga it was based on wasn't finished, so the writer gave the company permission to invent their own ending and ideas for that anime. After the manga was finished, they re-made it (Brotherhood) and followed the manga story. I'm not as much a fun of the original anime, just because of the plot twists/holes and character differences, but to each their own.

I watched it up to Episode 9 way back when I was still in Cebu and I quite enjoyed it myself. In fact, this show has one of the best storylines I have ever seen for a 50+ episode

Side Note: One of the fave lines I have ever heard in the series is this:
YouTube - I Love Dogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Which in real life, I am fond of as well... I LOVE DOGS!

:D I loved when the 'Haunted Building 13' episode was on, and they thought there was a murder when they found a bone nearby, then that little puppy trotted up casually and buried a chicken bone beside it. It was hilarious.

I have to buy a router to get my Xbox back online for Netflix(I moved out and I'm no longer using my folks' router lol), and as soon as I do, I'll start watching Brotherhood.

Oh, and I finished FMA before I moved... DID NOT expect that ending, nor did I expect what was actually behind the Gate... they left it open ended so I'm really, really hoping for more episodes in the future, or that Brotherhood will answer some of the questions I was left with.

its pretty amazing! kind of bitter sweet but a great way to end the original series. it is more than likely on netflix too so just grab it there and save your money. i on the other hand have the box sets and the movie for all of the original series and the first three box sets for brotherhood. dont get me wrong i love them! but that is a lot of monies...

What makes FMA so good? I'm considering watching it. Also, which series should I go with? Brotherhood or the original? Which has the better story/character development or are they just too different to compare?

What makes FMA good is a lot of things. It operates on a very different premise from many animes, it has amazing plot structure and character development, and the art is both technically and artistically gorgeous. I would recommend starting with Brotherhood, as it is the actual story that the manga-ka wrote. The original one is very different, but it became very confusing to me after it derived from what Arakawa (the writer) wrote. I much prefer Brotherhood!

lol oh man

The last few I've watched were SHORT compared to that.

Death Note, Hell Girl (season 1), Clannad (I admit to crying manly tears at the end, don't laugh), Monster (still haven't finished it, but its 70 something episodes long), and Kaiji are the only animes I've gotten into. Hey though, 64 episodes ain't bad at all and if its even half as good as you guys make it out to be then it should be a good thing =p

I'll check it out soon then.

i actually have a friend whos never seen Rurouni Kenshin or DBZ....i still mock him to this day...and Both FMA series are amazing. and i would actually recommend the original to start with first that way you dont have any expectations from brotherhood going into it. it is vastly different and you dont want to try to compare them at all. brotherhood is the story according to how it was originally meant to be. not saying that the original is bad at all. its just really different. and deathnote is pretty freaking awesome! you should look up Eureka Seven. its other personal favorite of mine. only about 50ish episodes. the manga is garbage. watch the anime of this one. oh oh oh and Yuyu Hakusho!! it is a cult classic!!! and you cannot be called an anime fan without having seen it!!!
