Drinking is ok, I do it almost daily. I have thick blood if not for grape juice or wine I could easily have a heart attack. Then my spouse cannot touch it because of having hepatitis as a child. The Bible never says that we cannot have alcohol but not to get drunk, or become a drunkard. Let Him lead and ya cant go wrong.

Didn't Jesus drink wine? Change water into wine? Tell the disciples to drink wine? What about Ecclesiastes and other places where it tells you to drink?

“Give strong drink to the one who is perishing, and wine to those in bitter distress; let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more” (Prov. 31:6-7; ESV).

Drinking alcohol is ok, so long as you avoid the following:
  • 1. If God has not told you not to do it specifically (a moral conscience thing)
  • 2. You do not drink too much and get drunk, or sin somehow because of it
  • 3. You do not tempt someone else or cause them to stumble in any way.
  • 4. You are of age, and legal to drink.
I enjoy alcoholic beverages with friends, the same way I enjoy soda or coffee. Admittedly, I do enjoy the calming effect of it, but that does not always happen.

As with almost ANYTHING, it should be done in moderation. We should not over-eat, over-drink, etc. You get the idea right?

Yes, Jesus did drink wine

Matthew 11:18-19
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners." ' But wisdom is proved right by her actions."

Jesus was drinking, and was accused of being a drunkard, but wisdom is proved right by her actions

And Yes, Jesus did turn water into wine, he provided the alcohol for the party! That was a wedding feast and Jesus brought the booze!

LOL. I like that. I think wine is no big deal. As for the hard stuff I would say no. All it would take is one person seeing you drink (lets say another believer) and makes them fall away. I'm just saying you should be careful. Myself I have always hated the tast.

" I'm just saying you should be careful."

Exactly, that's the problem, where does my repsonsiblity end and theirs begin....grey area so I don't drink around anyone that might have a problem with it..and when it doubt, the way of not doing an action is better (if the action could be construded as sin). :)

Hello- I agree that the Bible doesn't forbid drinking alcohol, it says that being drunk is the sin; but if an individual decides it's wrong for him/her, then it's wrong for him/her!!!  Some folks either can't drink the stuff (history of problems with alcohol, medical issues, etc); and some have decided drinking alcohol doesn't match up with  their beliefs about how they represent Christ.  Personally, I don't really like the stuff (glad the Bible doesn't discuss Coca-cola ...), but don't think there's anything wrong with a drink now and then....      Will St. Peter have a breathalyzer at the Gates???   just kidding.....

The bible says we shouldn't get drunk.

Prov. 20:1 Drinking too much makes you loud and foolish. It's stupid to get drunk!

If drinking 12 cans of beer get you drunk then don't do it but if drinking 2 cans leaves you feeling ok then I say go ahead!

I hate it when certain christians and churches preach such rubish as saying if you have a drink your going to hell. This is why so many non believers are turned off by us christians!

Are there any scriptual references from the NT (or anyware out of proverbs) about getting drunk? I mean, what is the point of drinking if you don't get drunk. Unless you like the taste (tastes awful though IMO).

This seems strange, as I would think it should say the opposite. I mean, giving alchohol to depressed people, letting them drink to forget their sorrows, you are inviting them to alcoholism by doing so. I do not understand that the Bible would promote you to offer drinks to depressed people.
