As Christians it's important we remain thankful to God in all things.

1 Thessalonians 5:18
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Psalms 69:30
I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.

What are some ways we can remain more thankful to God? Please feel free to post any other scriptures or examples of giving thanks found in the Bible. As well as anything that has worked for you in this area.

I Thessalonians 5:13b-18: "Live together in peace, and our instruction to this end is to reprimand the unruly, encourage the timid, help the weak and be very patient with all men. Be sure that no one repays a bad turn by a bad turn; good should be your objective always, among yourselves and in the world at large. Be happy in your faith at all times. Never stop praying. Be thankful, whatever the circumstances may be. If you follow this advice you will be working out the will of God expressed to you in Jesus Christ." JBP

Just had to add this from my favorite translator. Seems to me, if we follow the instructions in these verses, we cannot but be thankful.

Oh! You mentioned what has helped me to remain thankful. Well one thing that helps is to lose a little of what I have. That helps me to be more thankful for what is left.

Also it is easier when you consider the alternative. For example bad breath is not a pleasant thing, but it is surely better than no breath at all, yes? So things are never as bad as they seem or might be.

People complain they are having a bad day. Yet a day ABOVE GROUND is surely a good day.

Being thankful is a matter of perspective. When we become less than thankful, we need to change our perspective.

Gerry what is the JBP Bible. What does it stand for.

Also, something that helps to remain thankful is visiting foreign countries where they are less fortunate. Do missions work. I have been to Mexico once with AMOR ministries and it was such an eye opener. It really shows how much we have and take for granted. Especially the toilet, it is something we use everyday without thinking about it. Down in Mexico where I went the family we helped out were lucky to have a toilet that they shared with those around them.

yep Gerry! it's like this saying, no one can put you down unless you let them.

oh.... how to be thankful? to things that please God, :) apply God's teaching to present circumstances, always keep alert so we don't fall into satan's traps.

Right Blessed-0ne! People can talk bad about you, and say anything they want, whether it is true or not. They can do hurtful and spiteful things. Yes! They CAN PUT you down, but they cant't PULL you down. They cannot destroy your faith or you relationship with Jesus. Because God is always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS in charge, and whtever happens God has promised to work out for our good, if we are the called, who love Him.

What a Promise! WOW!

JB Phillips! One truly Awesome and anointed Man of God and Bible Scholar, well regarded among his peers! He first wote a paraphrase of the Bible, and then went back and did an AWESOME TRANSLATION of the New Testament. I know of at leat one Pastor friend of mine with a Doctorate and many years experience who uses this translation as an integral part of any study he does. I also use it "religiously". I do not suggest to you or anyone that it should peplace your KJV or NKJV or American Standard Version (1901 ed.) as they are the most accurate versions available in the English language.

But I do highly recommend this translation as a part of comparative study. Use it to bring the KJV or other translations to life!

I have posted a link to the online version many times. You cannot download it but I simply added it to my favorites. I hope all who are serious about studying God's Word will do the same.

Here is the link again. http://www.ccel.org/bible/phillips/JBPhillips.htm

I am nto saying your wrong Aaron, quite the opposite, I agree with you, but I think you can also do missions on a much more local level. No mission I have ever done has been more than 50 miles from where I live, yet last summer 7 young people gave there lives to Christ as a direct result of a week long mission that I was part of in their village. God truly blessed our mission team by showing us the fruits of our labours.

your sister in Christ

I find that when I'm doing chores around the house that I might not enjoy doing, it helps to think about those that don't even have a house to start with. This helps me to be more thankful for the chores that just come along with the house.

Psalms 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, And into his courts with praise: Give thanks unto him, and bless his name.

Giving thanks to the Lord is one of the ways we can Bless Him :)
