Women's Clothing

I am not a prude, but seriously. I just went shopping on one of my online stores that has always been a stand-by and am appalled at how sheer and scant the choices are getting. Recently I purchased a couple of "dresses" to wear as tops. I'm not even sure they cover the derriere entirely and wouldn't even wear them as a night shirt. Lord knows I'd never wear them as a dress.

And the sheerness! Things have to be layered driving the amount to buy up. Am I the only one getting tired of this? Does anyone else notice the trend of sheer/scant clothing? Am I imagining things?

Add leggings?

What bothers me most, is the stretchy material that accentuates everyone's embarrassing spots. A person can lose all modestly even with long sleeves and a turtleneck. Then, like the principles of painting with high-gloss paint, the shimmer of the fabric makes uneven surfaces more noticeable.

But the last few years have shown obvious attempts to save money -- cheap fabrics, careless designs, bad seams, less material (-; ... I am waiting out this style era.

I like to use the sheer fabrics to layer in the summer, and look semi-professional without wearing a warm suit jacket.

And that is my spirit-filled commentary on women's clothing of the season.

I do

No kidding! I overheard one lady telling someone they needed to buy "spanx" (or something like that) to cover the bulges. :o

I suppose we could all just get body paint and slather it on (barf).

I like to use the sheer fabrics to layer in the summer, and look semi-professional without wearing a warm suit jacket.

That's a good idea. Too bad pajamas don't work for work.

No it's not your imagination.

That's both good and bad. Good in that it's not all in my head, bad in that it's actually happening! :S

leggings? I do
Did you try any of those faux denims? I am curious to see how they look.

Spanx, this is getting complicated. Give up breathing and circulation so we can look casual in our form-fitting polyester.

I wish they would get back to surface design and fabric that was so beautiful, the customer felt confident wearing it. I just go through the racks, "ugly...ugly...boring...revealing...cheap...ugly..."

(Please don't suggest beauty is in the eye of the beholder.)

I have a pair of denim leggings and do like them, but they're not the most comfortable. I have zero curves so that kind of stuff never fits right. I'm thinking about trying pajama jeans, lol.

I wish we dressed like the women in India. Those sari's cover everything and every flaw. Even heavy women look graceful and classy in those things.

I detest shopping for clothes. Nine times out of ten I come home with nothing, or else a handbag, (purse in American!) because handbags can be depended upon to always fit and never show your bulges or rude bits lol!

Here in the UK we need more reasonable quality clothes for taller women and for larger dress sizes. If I am lucky enough to find a pair of jeans, leggings, trousers that fits both my hips and my leg length I am over the moon. But trudging round amidst acres of skimpy, pretty little wafty things can really make me feel like a freak because I don't fit into them.

I agree saris are beautiful, and I love the shalwar kameez too - long pants with a kind of short dress/long tunic top to match or contrast.

I'm not bothered by it. There's always been something wrong with fashion, to varying degrees.

I love sheer fabric actually, I have a few sheer tops that I wear a tank top underneath with a pair of jeans...It's comfy, it's classy.

I love the short dresses/tunic style stuff you can whear with a nice pair of pants/jeans and even leggins (if they cover the bumpy bits! I put leggings under most of my dresses now...sure beats having to worry about a puff of wind blowing up my dress. Although some dresses you can't wear leggings with...so I don't buy those.

Not that I wear a lot of dresses...I do have a few and I'm glad that I can wear them now because of leggings otherwse I wouldn't wear them at all.

I'm mainly a Jeans and top girl. Or 3/4 capri with tops.

Although I have to say that some stuff just makes me laugh...like hipster jeans and midriff tops with muffin tops hanging over..blurrrgh! Then they have those really short denim shorts now (yes they've always had them) but now they have the inside of the pockets hanging out the bottoms and that's apparantly fashion! What a laugh!

I'm so glad my 14 year old is more like me...jeans and top, dress with leggings that's pretty much all she wears. I brought her up right ;)

When it comes to fashon, fads or trends, most people are mindless. They can't even think for themselves. They will follow whatever those who are popular or important follow. "Role Models", who should be selected based on moral and spiritual issues are chosen based on wealth and success. People are lost in idiotic oblivian.

I detest shopping for clothes.

Hi Sue,

I used to love it, but not now. I have had a number of catalogues over the years, though that's a love/hate thing too, as I get sent junk mail for months afterwards. And some new catalogue update every fortnight or so.

Nine times out of ten I come home with nothing, or else a handbag,

I need a new handbag, but hate buying these too. My plan is always to get a smallish one so I can't get so much in it; so I do, only to find I am stuffing just as much into a smaller space. Years ago, I only had to carry a purse - now it's purse, mobile phone, glasses, diary, maybe my blue badge, and other things besides.

I tend to live in jogging trousers, or long, indian-type skirts - to hide as much as possible. If I could lose some weight I could get into some of the other things in my wardrobe, but it may take time! :(

Skimpy/wafty/girly type things have never really been my scene anyway; too cold, for one thing.

^_^ I recently set out on a clothes shopping trip and came back with handbag instead, so I can relate, I don't like Aussie fashion that much, I prefer to shop overseas in Asia.

I had a friend from the Philippines, and she would find the most beautiful clothes when she'd go home to vistit.

(-; The kameez even looked good on CF characters.

And saris... they can wear bright colors without standing out.

Ha! Do you hear what you're saying? Try to picture light leggings on a person who is overly curvy.

Honestly shopping for clothes gets me for different reasons. One of them is I am a heavier woman and it seems like stores do not think I have style or something. Also what gets me is just the fact that womens clothing does seem to get more revealing. Even in Walmart last week I saw a sign with a young Disney woman on it advertising her clothes. She had a revealing shirt and very short skirt. I do not find these clothes appealing. I for one prefer to leave more to the imagination and respect my temple of the Lord.

This is what I say: When women wear clothes like that is like opening your present before Christmas. Lol

agreed, good thread.

i never shop in clothing stores any more, but do my shopping online and thru specialty mail order catelogues, and i've gotten several compliments on my clothes from other women at church.

As a side note, our church has found that keeping the sanctuary at a cool 70 degree temp in the Summer a good policy when it comes to revealing clothes..if you're cold that means that you need to cover up more!^_^

I also have a sewing machine, so i'll probably be shopping for yardage and patterns this Fall to fill out my wardrobe. The regular yardage is up to $10.00 a yard, but i can find yardage online for about half that price. it still costs less to make clothes than to buy good ready-to-wear, but i take care of my clothes and change outfits regularly, so they usually last for 4 years or more.

as far as style is concerned, i usually stick to the classics. I'll find a top, dress, or pants that i like, and buy in multiple colors whenever possible. I don't buy anything that has to be dry cleaned (including coats!) so i save money that way as well.

Many(many) years ago I figured out how to predict "tomorrows" fashion trend.

Go down of 4th street and see what was being worn there. That would be what was being sold down the rad.

NOTE: 4th street is where the prostitutes plied their trade.

I agree with so much with what others are saying.

Especially about Indian clothes. I bought a couple of kameezes and saris when I was over there, and I wish I could wear them everyday. Although... saris are kind of annoying, hard to put on by yourself and the pallu gets in the way.

I don't agree about what has been said about spanx, though. I think they're awesome. I never wear a skirt or dress without one. Mainly, they prevent chafing. And I think it improves my posture - I have a tendency to slouch. But, yes, a big part is because it smooths out lumps and holds in jiggly bits. I feel the same way about my spanx as I do about my bra. Uncomfortable? Yes. But necessary. And you get used to it.
