God doesn't punish; men do. God is love and forgiveness. What happened in Japan was a natural disaster, and we shouldn't bring God into it.

God is both Love and Just all at the same time. People these days like to go around saying God is love love love but the sad reality is that those are blind and only see one side of God if they can honestly say that God never punishes and I am blown away that one could even say such nonsense because all through the Bible we can see where God has punished men by bringing judgement upon them for their rebellion.

What happened in Japan was a natural disaster, and we shouldn't bring God into it.

Oh so I guess God had absolutely no control over it then? Im pretty sure God is not sitting in heaven completely caught off guard by this earth quake because God is in complete absolute control of everything.

We occupy a planet that some scientists describe as almost alive due to its constant changing. Because of these changes we have a world where trees and plants grow, and where animals of various and sundry kinds can thrive. This includes us as human beings.

But it also means that there will be occurrences which endanger some of the inhabitants of that planet. We have rainfall, but we also have tornados and hurricanes. We have land suitable for pastures, but we also have geological faults which shift, causing destruction. We have volcanoes which foment the molten lava that causes massive destruction, but years later is responsible for the rich soil needed to plant certain crops. We are to give thanks for the good things, but we are also to be prepared to alleviate the suffering caused by this planet's violent outbursts.

Hurricane Katrina was not "God's wrath" either, and those who insisted that it was were no less cruel and unchristlike than those who are saying the same about the earthquake in Japan.

People have really forgotten, Yes God is merciful and loves to forgive but he will not be mocked for a man will reap as he sows, same goes for cities and nations. Rebellious people are the ones to blame when the Judgement of God is brought down on them, that doesnt make God cruel and insensitive, it makes him Just.

There is no evidence in Scripture or in reality that incidents such as these are God's wrath. Without any evidence to believe that they are, to call them such is cruel and insensitive. In fact, Jesus spoke of a disaster in his own time by pointing out that their demise was not because of anything that they had done. Luke 13:1-9. His point was that God's wrath will be experienced in the end, but that the disasters that happen in the meantime are not themselves God's wrath.

No it isnt, not if it is justice from God. It is no more cruel than the hurricane that swept through that sin ridden city not long ago in the USA.

Sodom and Gomorrah come to mind. Was that a natural disaster?! Maybe global warming?! :p

No. No. and No. I have seen no evidence that the rate of natural disasters is any higher now than ever. And, frankly, the insinuation that this is God's wrath is cruel, insensitive, and unchristlike.

The same attitude was had over 9/11, Katrina, Haiti - you name it - it's always someone else who's being punished.

It's easy to forget that at the fall of man, a curse came upon the earth. We are all subject to a corrupted, cursed earth and its weather system.

No. Unless you are willing to say that all natural disasters are punishment from God, how can we say which ones are? In fact one would have to believe there is no such thing as a "natural" disaster only Gods wrath. Or at the least be willing to admit we don't know.
