I have heard a few pastors say that we should not confess our sins at all, the one verse (1 John 1:9) in the bible that says we should they say is speaking of the unsaved and how they should confess their sin to the Lord prior to salvation, but when we are saved (they say) we should not.

I particularly remember hearing Joseph Prince speaking on it, he said he knew someone with OCD (like me) who's relationship with the Lord was being consumed by this, he says that the believers sin is already payed for and there is no need to ask for forgiveness because our sin is covered, to tell the truth this makes sense to me. We are already forgiven so why ask for forgiveness?
Amen and Amen!

Glad to help, its the least I can do considering all the help you have given me in the past. Pray for me as I will pray for you, my health has taken a pretty big hit from all of this constant doubt and worry about if im saved or not.
When I was young in the Lord, I also questioned my salvation. Then, I heard a sermon in which the following scripture was referenced.

Romans 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God, (NKJV)

I asked the Holy Spirit if I was truly saved and He bore witness with my spirit that I was! Satan lost his ability to torment me with doubt concerning this!

Shalom!

There's a difference in asking for and receiving salvation vs repenting for the sins we do after salvation.

sEE aCTS 8 ESPECIALLY 13 AND 22 - After becoming a believer, he's told to repent.

What about the Lord's prayer?

Did Prince mean we don't have to keep asking to be saved? Of course we don't have to do that. But you know ministers are human too. It's our responsibility to find out for ourselves.

Anyway I'm sure there are other examples but we can see there's Scriptures that say repent.

In what way did he show you that you were his? through a feeling etc? I have always wondered what it was like for the Spirit to bear witness to our spirit that we belong to him.

I have asked God quite a few times if I was truly saved and its always the same thing with me, complete silence, no feelings of any sort and no assurance.

No offense to marsh, the Lord may indeed have heard her cry and gave her a feeling to calm her doubts. I do not believe though that this is where we should place our trust, feelings can get us in trouble and they are easily manipulated by the devil. The only One we can trust is Jesus and what His word reveals Him to be, you can trust His promises and love. I would much rather trust John 3:16 for my salvation then a feeling.

When the Holy Spirit bears witness with your spirit, it is not through your physical senses or “feelings.” It is seldom an audible voice, although it can sometimes seem to be. I can only explain it as “a knowing;” His Spirit, dwelling within you, speaks to your spirit.

John 14:16-17, 26-27
16And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
26But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 10:27-30
27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. 30 I and My Father are one.”

Romans 8:14-16
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, (NKJV)

Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you concerning these things.

Try this: Close your eyes and quiet your mind. Then, speak these words from your heart; quietly, but out loud: “I love you Jesus.” Repeat these words over and over. See what happens. (I do this regularly, especially if I am tempted to be troubled over something.)

Try this: Start asking the Holy Spirit to guide you in small things. For instance, ask Him to show you where to park in a parking lot. Start including Him in your decision making process. “Practice makes perfect.” He is all knowing and interested in the smallest aspects of your life; He is always looking for ways to bless you.

Shalom!

Many people complicate, qualify and question salvation. However, Acts 2:21 says that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 16:30-31 says that if you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 says that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Believers, instead of keeping their focus on Jesus, they entertain thoughts given to them by the devil – that is what he tries to do – he is the author of confusion. (1 Corinthians 14:33) Satan hates believers. When he tries to bring doubt and confusion, tell him to take his lying thoughts and be gone. Resist him and he must flee. (James 4:7)

1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

James 4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

How often do you confess sin, always, most of the time, never?

I do it constantly, I'm wondering if I am going overboard with it. I mean I know we should confess our sin to the Lord but with me its becoming something where its all I think about, and I have OCD so this is becoming a new scruple for me.

Also if we know and are convicted that it is sin that we have committed, is it really necessary to confess or even to ask for forgiveness, doesn't the blood of Jesus cover all our sins already anyways? Your thoughts would be appreciated.
I have not found a single instance in the Word, under the new covenant, where believers are required by God to confess their sins to Him. (No, I do not believe that 1 John 1:9 is written to believers.)

I am not sin-conscious, I am righteous-conscious! As I behold Jesus, I am being transformed into His image. Right believing produces right behavior.

Luke 11

1And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. 2And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. 3Give us day by day our daily bread.
4And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.”

Same in Matt 6
9After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11Give us this day our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

This prayer is for believers to pray to Our Father with a portion about sin consciousness.

When we read God’s Word, we need to understand who is speaking and who they are speaking to. In Luke 11:1-4 and Matthew 6:9-13, Jesus was teaching his Jewish disciples to pray. At that point in time, they were not under our new and better Covenant, they were under the Law. The Law does make you sin-conscious. The purpose of the Law is to bring you to the end of yourself and make you realize that you need a Savior. We are incapable of becoming righteous by following the Law.

On the Cross, Jesus took man’s sin upon Himself so that He could give us His righteousness. 2 Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Christians are made righteous in Christ. We are no longer under the law or subject to the curse of the law. We are under grace and subject to the blessing.
Romans 5:17 For if by the one man’s (Adam’s) offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)
God’s grace and free gift of righteousness inspire and empower us to obey the Word of God.

In Him, I am the righteousness of God. I honor Jesus by being righteous-conscious!

Guess a discussion on Yahweh's justice is out of the question. (just kidding).

Anyway,

1-At communion, we're told if we have something against someone to get it straighten out, prior to taking communion. It's about our hearts being right before Yahweh.
2-
This is written to believers: I John 1

6If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."

Blessings to you - This is my last post concerning this matter. Enough Scripture has been shown that Yahweh is holy, doesn't like sin and when we repent - He always forgives us.

OP - How often? Some believe that repenting of known and unknown sins is part of their daily prayers. We receive His forgiveness and then learning from our mistakes, we move on in Him.

My posts seem to have upset you and for that I am truly sorry. That was not my intention. I thought we were simply sharing our different understandings. If you cannot see what I am sharing, then these posts are not intended for you.

I have never suggested that Yahweh is not holy or that he is not against sin. I have stated that the price of sin demanded by the Law was fully satisfied by Jesus. Jesus came to fulfill the Law (Matthew 5:17). Jesus paid the price for all sin so that we would no longer be required to. Jesus is in me, I am in Him and He is in God. In Him, I am the righteousness of God, not through my own efforts.
Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. (NKJV)

1 John 1 was not written to believers, but to Agnostics.

The scripture you refer to concerning communion is 1 Corinthians 11:29.
1 Corinthians 11:29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. (NKJV)
This scripture does not say that a person must do something to be worthy of taking communion. This scripture says that we must take communion in a worthy manner by discerning the Lord’s body as we partake.

In Jesus, our hearts are right before Yahweh.

Hebrews 9:11-15
11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. 12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

Is what Jesus did good enough or not?

Shalom!
